Providing consulting and design services for Steckel Rolling Mill and Plate Finishing areas of new 1.25 million ton Greenfield plant for Mobile, Ala. including design of equipment and material lifting devices. Owners principal representative for rolling mill and plate finishing erection and equipment alignment acceptance. Final technical review of construction backcharges against equipment suppliers.
- Kvaerner Metals
Provided transition liaison for Ipsco Alabama project for reheat furnace, rolling mill, and plate finishing.
- SMI Steel B SC
Engineering design of continuous caster fume evacuation system, including detailed drawings and specifications.
- Rooney Associates, Inc. Exton, Pa
Contractor prebid qualifications, evaluation, and selection for relocation of two metalworking and warehouse operations into a new facility. Services included onsite construction coordination, supervision, and performance evaluation.
- Lockwood Greene Engineers-Dallas
Technical specifications and layout for new plate mill rolling mill, plate handling equipment, and roll shop.
- Nucor Steel:
Process equipment specifications, technical and pricing bid evaluations of process equipment for new plate mill. Process equipment evaluated was for meltshop, caster, reheat furnaces, rolling mill, plate finishing and roll grinders. Equipment layout review for all process departments. Made layouts for meltshop, rolling mill, plate finishing, roll shop, and shipping.
- D & L Engineering:
Study of steel rolling (Steckel) mill for maximum production and requirements for increased production, study also included roll mill and plate finishing equipment and study of shipping bays and cranes.
- Nucor Corp.:
Technical and pricing bid evaluations for push pull pickle line, cold reversing mill, and galvanizing/galvanneal line.
- Fluor-Daniel-Greenville:
Project, Plant, and Design engineering Services for Alcoa smelting facilities. Engineering study of pencil pitch replacement with liquid pitch for anode production.
Equipment engineering for EOH cranes and fabline equipment for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. Micromill, responsible for functional and performance specifications, bid evaluations
- Lockwood Greene Engineers-Knoxville:
Preliminary design of rolling mill scale drag conveyor.
Specification for aluminum reverbatory barrel furnace and associated equipment.
Process engineering consultant on steel mini-mill CSP type, assisted in writing equipment and contract services performance specifications, evaluation of bidders, studies of coil handling, all major mill crane evaluations, review of river port facility, plant RR system, roll shop layout, and shipping bay study.
- Engineering Tectonics:
Basic and detailed design of lime feed mechanism for bulk charging lime into an EAF. Lime system in operation. U.S. Patent granted
- Midrex:
Developed costs estimates for portions of a process for Hot DRI Transport and charging into an EAF. Provided engineering and drafting services for the Spirex and North American Fastmet projects.
- Nucor Steel-Darlington:
Design of lime feed system from silos to feed through EAF roof, environmental work dealing with EAF dust silo inspection and SPCC.

Review of and application of air permits for EAF slag processor, EAF dust processor, and PSD for steel mill.

Steel industry engineering consultant on process, equipment, and technical issues.

Responsible for design of preheating equipment including material handling, water cooled, and scrap feeding. Equipment and production modeling for the melting and scrap feeding processes.
- Nucor Steel Div., Darlington, S.C.:
Chief Plant Engineer 12/85 - 11/93
Responsible for all plant engineering functions including new and retrofit projects, equipment design, construction engineering, maintenance support engineering, equipment specifications, and purchasing of contract engineering. Project engineer and director for new 100 tph meltshop. In addition, engineering support for equipment/process negotiating, construction management, and technical input and review of various contracts.
- Weirton Steel Corp. & National Steel Corp.:
Various Positions to General Mechanical Foreman 5/70 - 11/85
Responsible for maintenance of 4500 tpd sintering plant and blast furnace cooling water system. Increased process equipment (excludes environmental control equipment) production uptime from 75% to 95+% through employee involvement, material and equipment upgrades, preventive maintenance, and retrofit engineering. Various maintenance functions for blast furnaces, reline inspections and inspector on new blast furnace.
