In the life of every band, there comes a time to take stock; to reflect on goals set and goals achieved; to offer a silent prayer of thanksgiving for the many blessings so richly bestowed upon us. For blink-182, this is not the time. They're too busy touring the world, scarfing Sombrero’s burritos, farting and rocking the planet till the ozone layer disintegrates. In the recent past, blink-182 won a Teen Choice Award, a Blockbuster Music Award, and appeared on the MTV Awards '00 where they performed "All The Small Things" and won Best Group Video. In Europe they received an MTV Europe Award for Best New Act. They performed on Saturday Night Live and the Tonight Show (twice), appeared in American Pie and opened the Billboard Music Awards. The band also graced the covers of Rolling Stone, Alternative Press (twice), Teen People, Teen and CosmoGirl, just to name a few. It's safe to say the blink-182 is now a worldwide phenomenon, with their records reaping platinum and their concert tours packing ‘em in all across Europe, Australia, Asia, and the Americas. And earlier this year, blink-182 ventured back to the studio with producer Jerry Finn to record their fourth studio album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (you should say the title out loud to fully appreciate the subtle, sophisticated humor).

GREENDAY
Biography
With alternative rock music going overground in the early 90s, few acts were better positioned to exploit the commercial possibilities than Green Day - Billie Joe Armstrong (b. 17 February 1972, California, USA; vocals/guitar), Mike Dirnt (b. 4 May 1972, California, USA; bass/vocals) and Tre Cool (b. Frank Edwin Wright III, 9 December 1972, Germany; drums/vocals). Armstrong and Dirnt had been playing together since the age of 11 in the refinery town of Rodeo, California, performing in various garage bands. Tre Cool had been in a band called the Lookouts who broke up in 1990, but their final EP, IV, featured Billie Joe Armstrong playing guitar and singing backing vocals on three tracks. Armstrong and Dirnt had already formed Sweet Children with ex-Isocracy drummer John Kiffmeyer, releasing an EP in 1987. The new trio's debut release came on Livermore's Lookout! Records in 1989, the 1,000 Hours EP. However, two weeks before release the band informed Livermore that they had changed their name to Green Day, inspired by their fondness for marijuana and by the fact that another local band, Sweet Baby Jesus, had just changed their name to Sweet Baby and signed with Slash/Warner Brothers Records.
Green Day's debut album, 39/Smooth, recorded in a single day, comprised 10 pop punk tracks. A limited edition EP (Slappy) for Lookout! followed. Kiffmeyer booked their first national tour, but afterwards left the band to concentrate on college (his only subsequent musical activity came in the Ne'er Do Wells). Cool was asked to fill in, and immediately wrote the comedic "Dominated Love Slave' for 1992"s Kerplunk!, where the 60s pop quotient was reduced in favour of a synthesis of 70s British punk bands the Jam and Stiff Little Fingers. It sold over 50,000 records through word of mouth and underground media support

Maroon 5
Biography:
Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey Madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums) spent the latter half of the '90s playing in the modern rock foursome Kara's Flowers. The Fourth World was their proper debut for Reprise, a favorite in the college market, but a change of direction loomed ahead. They left Reprise in 1999 and renamed themselves Maroon 5 with the addition of guitarist James Valentine. Levine and his junior-high pals spent the next years tweaking their style and playing various music showcases in and around New York City and Los Angeles. The independent label Octone Records caught one those shows and offered Maroon 5 a deal. Songs About Jane emerged from those sessions, finally appearing in June 2002, but it wasn't until the next summer that things started happening for Maroon 5. "Harder to Breathe" and "This Love" were top 10 on singles and by January 2004, Songs About Jane was certified platinum, reaching number 6 on the Billboard 200. A third single, "She Will Be Loved," appeared later that August, and the buzz continued to swirl around Maroon 5. (They somewhat ironically won the Best New Artist Grammy in 2005.) As the success of Songs for Jane was slow to develop (or rather, it was the rare 21st century album given time to develop), Maroon 5 had to issue some stopgap live recordings while they supported Jane and tried to think about new material. 1.22.03.Acoustic appeared in 2004, and Live at the Santa Barbara Bowl in September 2005. The band also supported the Rolling Stones for a string of dates in August and September 2005. MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

CREED
Creed was formed in 1995 in Tallahassee, FL, by vocalist Scott Stapp and guitarist Mark Tremonti, who had been friends in high school but initially went their separate ways. Stapp had been studying law at Florida State University, but eventually dropped out to pursue music, a decision that led to conflict with his anti-rock & roll parents (his father was a Pentecostal minister). Stapp and Tremonti began writing songs together, many of which obliquely addressed themes of Christian spirituality, and added a rhythm section consisting of bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips. As an alternative to the band's original name (Naked Toddler), Marshall suggested the name Creed, having played in another band dubbed Mattox Creed. Creed soon went on to form their own label, Blue Collar, and entered the studio with producer John Kurzweg in 1997 to record their first album, My Own Prison. Initially self-released in a limited run, My Own Prison was picked up by Wind-Up Records -- a fledgling imprint with distribution through Sony -- and remixed to give it a heavier, more radio-friendly punch. And it worked. Given major-label exposure, My Own Prison spun off no less than four number one singles -- "My Own Prison," "Torn," "What's This Life For," and "One" -- on Billboard's mainstream rock radio charts over the next year, making Creed the first band to accomplish the feat with its debut album. My Own Prison sold like hotcakes, moving over five million copies over the next couple of years despite little MTV exposure or media coverage.

Dashboard Confessional
The alternative rock outfit Dashboard Confessional hails from Boca Raton, FL, and is chiefed by singer/songwriter Christopher Carrabba. Marking his first solo effort with the release of The Swiss Army Romance, Carrabba also fronted other rock bands such as Further Seems Forever and the Vacant Andies. Dashboard Confessional allows Carrabba to mold simple acoustics with passionate wordplay to make for a delightful introduction to his individual work. Both the Drowning EP and the second full-length Places You Have Come to Fear the Most were issued in early 2001. Pop kids of the TRL generation united for Dashboard Confessional's emocore style, for 2001 proved golden for Carrabba. "Screaming Infidelities" became a modern rock hit and a joint tour with The Weakerthans was also a monumental move for Dashboard Confessional. The Vagrant Across America tour in summer 2001 with labelmates No Motiv, Hot Rod Circuit and {Alkaline Trio} pushed Dashboard Confessional's further into the spotlight while proving that this punk-revival thing wasn't a fluke. With the buzz still on, the lovelorn So Impossible EP was released in early 2002. Sunny Day Real Estate's Dan Hoerner also joined Carrabba for what was now a duo. ..

Metallica
Metallica, Rock Band
Born: 1981
Birthplace: California
Best Known As: The heavy metal band who did "Enter Sandman"
Metallica dominated heavy metal music in the 1980s and 1990s, emerging as one of the top musical acts in history by the end of the century. Drummer Lars Ulrich (26 December 1963) and guitarist James Hetfield (3 August 1963) started the band in 1981. After a few line-up changes (including guitarist Dave Mustaine, who left in 1982 to form Megadeath), the band released Kill 'Em All in 1983 and toured the U.S. with Ulrich, Hetfield, guitarist Kirk Hammett (18 November 1962) and bass player Cliff Burton (10 February 1962). In 1986 the band released Master of Puppets, signalling their development from speed metal thrashers to serious songsmiths who could pound out the heavy riffs. That same year a bus accident claimed the life of Burton, and Jason Newsted (4 March 1963) joined the band. Their major-label release ...And Justice For All was a critical and popular success (they had a top 40 hit with "One"), and the band toured relentlessly. Their so-called "black" album in 1991 included the hit song "Enter Sandman," and their exposure on MTV helped make them superstars. In 1996 they released Load, followed the next year by Reload, both top-selling albums that solidified Metallica's presence in mainstream rock. In 2000 they were in the news regularly for their legal battle with the online file sharing service, Napster, and drummer Ulrich appeared before the United States Senate, explaining to a sympathetic Orrin Hatch that file sharing was, in fact, stealing. Eventually Metallica and Napster reached an agreement, but in 2001 Jason Newsted left the band and James Hetfield entered a substance abuse rehabilitation program, leaving the band's latest recording on hold.

The Calling.
Biography
The Calling started out as an army of two, a binary band of brothers, and from the beginning, they never doubted that their music would touch a global audience. Today, two years after the lavish success of "Camino Palmero," the Calling's 2002 premiere album, the partnership between Alex Band and Aaron Kamin remains as vital as ever. Now, it's showtime again, as they follow up with "Two," the band's new RCA CD.
Why Two? "Obviously, because it's our second record," says singer/songwriter Alex Band, "and also to restate the fact that there are two people in the band and we write/do the music." He could have added a third reason. Throughout the album's 10 tracks, the Calling reflect on life's dual nature: hope and despair, love and loss, sense and spirit.
