“THE BRIDGE”

THE WALNUT CREEK SERVICE UNIT NEWSLETTER

SEPTEMBER, 2004

FROM YOUR SUD

Many, many thanks to all of you that helped out with the Orientation and BLT and Program level training that we hosted last Saturday, the 11th!  It was awesome and the evaluations reflected your efforts.  Give Brekken a hug next time you see her as she was very busy with children of the moms and dads attending the training.  Thanks to Tammy Vernon for helping with the sun-dial activity!  Cudos to Christy for her Junior level training, Becky Chen to the awesome Brownies level training and Carrie for stepping up to help the new Daisy parent with assistance from Melida in translating to Spanish for her.  It was a real team effort on everyone’s part and that is what makes all of you all so special.

Thanks to all of you who provided nourishment for all the attendees!  Everyone played a part in making this a wonderful experience for all and the comments were, for example:  thanks for making me feel welcome, I really learned something today and everyone was so friendly and helpful – and many more things along those lines!

You all are thoroughly furnished lacking nothing and ready to do any good deed!!

See ya’ at the October adult meeting in two weeks!

Ms. President Patch Program (The White House Project)

This is really a great patch program to get girls thinking they are qualified and could be president one day.  The program has activities for  all levels.

Here is the link to access it on the GSUSA website: http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/insignia/online/participation_patches/ms_president/

It is perfect tie in with the USA presidential elections coming up.   Plants those seeds of maybe I would want to be, and no reason I can't be.   President should not just be a male thing, it should be the best candidate - regardless of all other factors.

Remember to tell your own new voting age children or scouts what types of voting machines they will encounter when they go vote.  I took my oldest  last November for the 1st time and she was amazed that there were no chads.

I never even thought to tell her about that since in my voting lifetime, we never ever used paper ballots.  But most older kids learned about hanging chads with last presidential election and remember.
