Brickwall John SAVAGE
I am looking for John SAVAGE b.1801 Co. Down.(tombstone ST Philomena
cemetery Dubuque Co Iowa USA) parents, siblings, townland.
Received a e-mail --"A letter dated 23rd March 1846 from agent of the
Clainwilliam estate to the land lord, General Meade in England. reads.
"An application has been made to me by John Savage of Bridge Quarter
(Parish of Kilcoo) for a transfer to Michael Rae on the hill for the land
old Savage and his son John were successively possessed of as he Savage
is for America."
Can you tell me where this particular Clainwilliam estate was located.
I've googled, but none near Burrenreagh where I think he may have been
from; Tithes, Griffin reports etc..
John SAVAGE, wife Mary m.1835, b. 1810, dau of Bernard and
Anna/Roseanne Brush/Rush
McCARTAN/en immigrated on Independence from Liverpool May 1846, With 4
small children, Catherine, Michael Joseph, Anne, John Francis. and
Mary's younger brother Bernard McCartan. Settled in Dubuque Co Iowa USA.
Mary's McCartan parents and 3 sisters followed within 2 years.
Oldest dau Catherine obit states born in Kilcoo, (parish, town ??) Co
Down. Is there a Catholic Church near, that might have records back
then, I could contact?
