Other Discworld Publications

Discworld success has not been limited to the novels. There is quite a variety of other products on the market for the discerning fan.

Audio Books
There are two ranges of audio books available. The abridged versions published by Corgi (or Doubleday Audio)are all read by Tony Robinson. They are typically a little more expensive than a paperback book and simplify the story to fit onto a couple of tapes. The tapes are usually released at the same time as the hardbacks these days. Most on-line book shops supply the audio books - www.amazon.co.uk has most titles available at £8.99 each.

If it's the complete, unabridged books that you are looking for, on either Audio Cassette tapes or CD's, these are published by Isis Publishing. Recent books are read by Stephen Briggs (TheFifth Elephant, The Truth, Thief of Time, Eric, Strata, The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents, Night Watch, The Wee Free Men, Monstrous Regiment) with the earlier books read by Nigel Planer (Wyrd Sisters and Equal Rites are read by Celia Imrie). They typically cost more than the hardback book, at around £20-£25, but you get the complete story on up to 8 tapes, or up to 10 Compact Discs, with a running time of up to10 hours.

Isis also produced some books on a single CD for just £12.99. The files recorded in Windows Media Audio (.wma) format, will play on Windows Media Player 7 or Winamp - both are available as free downloads from the Internet (from www.microsoft.com and www.winamp.com respectively), but to download them you must be running Windows 98 or above. WMP 7 comes pre-loaded with Windows 2000. They will not play on Mac or Linux. More details can be found on the Isis website.
You can buy the unabridged books direct from www.isis-publishing.co.uk or ring Isis free on 0800 731 5637 (UK only) or outside the UK call +44 1865 250 333.

Maps

The Streets of Ankh-Morpork (published 1993)- The idea of mapping Discworld geography came from Stephen Briggs who gathered all the Ankh Morpork references from the books and produced a rough map. The job of drawing it went to Stephen Player and the result was a very detailed and impressive fold up street map of the Great City of the Discworld. Since then, there have also been The Discworld Mapp (published 1995), A Tourist Guide to Lancre (published 1998) and Death's Domain (published in 1999), with Paul Kidby taking over the artists role for the last two. Terry and Stephen contribute a thin booklet to each map providing a little insight into the subject matter.

Diaries

There have been six Discworld diaries produced, and with no diary published for 2004 it looks like there will be no more.
1998 - The first Discworld Diary followed a Unseen University theme. This was a collaboration between Terry and Stephen Briggs with Paul Kidby providing the artwork, although much of the artwork had already been seen in his Pratchett Portfolio.
1999 - Discworld's Ankh-Morpork City Watch inspired the 1999 diary.
2000 - The Assassins' Guild Yearbook and Diary.
2001 - The Fool's Guild Yearbook and Diary got the treatment.
2002 - The Thieves' Guild Yearbook & Diary.
2003 - The (Reformed) Vampyre's Diary, sponsored by the Uberwald League of Temperance.

The Discworld Almanak

The Science of Discworld

Science of the Discworld (published1999) was written by Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen and takes a wry look at some modern scientific theories. Threaded through the book is a short story by Terry in which the Wizards of UU create a model of our universe in the squash courts and the alternating chapters by IS & JC look at what is actually going on.
The latest paper back edition (published 2002) has been fully revised and updated with two new chapters.

The Science of Discworld II THE GLOBE

In The Science of Discworld II The Globe (published May 2002) international science writers Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen join forces again with Terry to see just what happens when wizards and elves meddle in Earth's human history. The Renaissance is given a push, London is replaced temporarily by a dozy Neanderthal village, the role of fat women in art is devloped and one very famous playwright gets born and writes The Play. This Discworld tale weaves between Cohen and Stewart's cuting edge scientific explorations into human evolution and the development of the human mind, culture, language, art, and science as fostered by Discworld wizards.

The Science of Discworld 111 Darwin’s Watch

The Science of Discworld 111 Darwin’s Watch (published by Ebury Press, 2005), by Terry Pratchett, Ian Stewart & Jack Cohen. Roundworld is in trouble again, and this time it looks fatal. Having created it in the first place, the wizards of Unseen University feel vaguely responsible for its safety…now it’s all gone wrong again and the pace of progress has slowed right down. Darwin wrote the wrong book and now he’s got to write a different one from Theology of the Species.

Cook Books

Nanny Oggs Cookbook features recipes from Tina Hannan and text by Terry and Stephen Briggs. Paul Kidby's artwork brings the book to life as Nanny shares her "wisdom" with us.

Playscripts

Stephen Briggs has been adapting Discworld novels for the stage since his Abingdon play group decided to try something a little different in the early 1990's. Many of his scripts have been published and make enjoyable reading - they keep the spirit of the books, but cut out a lot of the detail of course.

GURPS

Role players will be delighted to know that Steve Jackson Games published a Discworld GURPS book. Terry was a bit of a role-playing fanatic before he started writing the novels and he colluded with Phil Masters on this very extensive tome.
For the last few years, events on the Discworld have been chronicled in the works of Terry Pratchett. Now, thanks to a special deal (rumoured to involve Mr Dibbler of Ankh-Morpork, special consultancy on combat rules from Cohen the Octogenarian Barbarian, a vampire lawyer, and three miles of frozen river), it's time for roleplayers to make their way to the far end of the probability curve and.......
