"I'm angry at numbers. There's like- too many of 'em"

Well said, Beavis. Let's stick with words. They're cool.

There are quite a few things that you can do with words that are just harmless entertainment. Now, before I go any further, it must be noted that I am a massive nerd and many of these word things, which to all appearances are nothing but an attempt to dry humor out to the point where contact with it would render you dying of thirst in a nigh-literal sense, are in fact amusing to me and at least a certain slice of the population, if not to the rest of the world. I can only offer this apology (defense) for my infatuation with the logos, for my desire for linguistic intricacies, for my craving for strange vowels, and I do so in the words of Jimmy, the great uniter: Come on.     I mean, Come on.

Ladle Rat Rotten Hut

First off, I give to you an interesting short story that may not make sense at first. Without giving too much away (since the discovery is really part of the fun) I'll tell you that you should try to read it to yourself at least a little before you open the realplayer file that reads the story to you. I should also warn you that if you try to read along while she orates you may get lost as there are a few sentence parts she skips and a few words she changes. The best thing to do is to read it aloud.

For anyone that's interested, I was in a play where this was performed. It was really a collection of short sketches and I wasn't in this one, but I would always sit and listen to it while the actors performed. I got to the point that I knew it well enough that I entertained daydreams of killing the guy who played the 'Anomolous Woof' so that I could realise the dreams of an unofficial understudy, stepping in serendipitously from the shadows to save the day. (Man! Where's the Phantom of the Opera when you need him?)

Interesting Anagrams

Next, I give to you a site that has a limited amount (but they are high in quality) of Anagrams. Anagrams, if you didn't know, are words or phrases that are created from the exact number of letters in another word or phrase. So, if you rearrange "Magic the Gathering," You can get "In a math trigger" with the same letters. Actually, I lied. There are to many G's to work with, but you get the idea.

Here's the most interesting one I found on the site.

There are alot of interesting things on the rest of that guy's site including a fingerspelling tutorial for practice and links to MENSA sites with all kinds of fun mathematical canundrums to frag your mind.

List of Etymologies

Etymologies, the linguistic root of a word as it developed, are essentially the story of language. Often they are dry references to Proto Indo-European or Latin, but sometimes there's a really good cultural story attatched to the development of the word and its usage. The above site has all of its words crammed onto one page, but it's pretty good reading. For instance, did you know that the word 'escape' comes from the latin that means out of cape since people who were fleeing would often throw off their capes to avoid capture? . Please keep in mind that these seem pretty reliable but I can't guaranetee that they're all 100% correct.
