Alexander sat next to his father, King Nickolas, up on the throne. Nickolas was loved deeply by his people, as was his son. The King always seemed to know what to do in problems. And so, when word came that the giant eagle Arnaud was getting closer and closer to the palace, and was already killing hundreds of people, he decided to do something about it. Nickolas stood up and addressed his son. "Alexander, you must go out and slay this beast somehow!"
"Yes father," Alex bowed uncertainly. He had always been a brave boy, but this still scared him. He wasn't sure if he could actually do it.
Smiling sadly, Nickolas said, "Be careful, my son. Please. You are to go out tomorrow night; tonight we will have a large feast to honor the prince's courage." The scribe next to the King nodded and walked off to tell the cooks. Nickolas turned to his son. "Remember, to defeat this animal you must have the gods on your side. I advise you go to them, and ask for strength, courage, and health, most of all health. I wish you come back fully alive, my son. You need to succeed the throne, and only you can."
"Of course, Father," the 21-year-old prince replied, bowing. He then walked off to the temple of Indiria, god of heaven & thunderstorms, also highest god.
Nickolas watched his son walk out, sighing. He was sending his beloved son, his only heir, out on a very dangerous journey, without so much as asking if Alexander actually wanted to do this. But knowing that Alex was brave and strong, Nickolas had great faith and hope in his son. He was practially positive that his son could defeat this monster and save their kingdom from further death and devastation.
