Brian stood at the gates of his palace, about to leave. He took a deep breath, willing himself to go on. King Howard had wished him good-bye from his throne, and now Brian was waiting for .well, the courage to get up and leave his safe home for the cold, bitter forests. Finally he walked out, taking one last look at the house he grew up in. "Brian, WAIT!" he heard. Brian turned around. He saw his younger brother Kevin running toward him. "Brian, I just wanted to see you off, and give you this," Kevin said quietly. He had never really been one for showing emotions. He handed Brian a small piece of cloth- their mother's handkerchief. The only thing Kevin had to remind him of their mother, his good-luck charm.
Their mother, Queen Anne, had died when they were both very young. She had always been a weak woman, for she had heart problems. The people of Dianeo ignored this though, because she was a very strong queen emotionally. Her advice to her husband turned out to be the best he got from anyone. And everyone loved her, especailly her young sons. Anne died seven years after Kevin was born, giving birth to their brother, Robert.
"Kevin, I can't take this from you!" Brian protested, knowing how much this flimsy piece of cloth meant to his brother.
"Please Brian," The 19-year-old said quietly, tears threatening to fall down his warm cheeks. He wanted Brian to not only remember not only their mother, but also him. Brian had always been his favorite brother.
"Alright Kevin," Brian smiled at the young Prince. "I'll think of you and Mother everyday. Thank you so much."
"You're very welcome, Brian. I'll miss you. Be careful!" Kevin said softly.
"Of course Kevin. I'll miss you too," he smiled sadly, hugging his brother tightly. "Good-bye."
"Good luck, Brian." Kevin said. Brian nodded and walked off slowly, pushing himself further on.
