Chapter 2- The Dinner Party

Over at Jane's house, Jane and Bob were busy preparing food for the barbecue. Miranda and Jess had gone back to the house quickly to change into their bathing suits and clean up Miranda's cuts.

"Are you having fun?" Miranda asked Jess as she dressed her daughter.

"Yea Mommy, Brian and Nick are funny. I'm glad you let me have friends," she smiled.

"Of course I let you have friends, silly!" Miranda laughed. "Everyone has friends."

"Like Mrs. White?" Jess asked.

"Yep, like Mrs. White," Miranda smiled. Mrs. White, Pat, was Miranda's best friend from high school. She had just gotten married as well. They lived a few doors down.

"Is Jane gonna be your friend?" Jess asked.

"I hope so, Jessie, I hope so," Miranda smiled. "You ready to go?"

"Yea Mommy!" Jess said, jumping up and down.

Laughing, Miranda said, "Then let's go, cutie pie." They walked next door. Jane greeted them and brought them to the backyard where Brian's parents were already sitting.

"Miranda, this is Jackie and Harold, Brian's parents. Guys, this is Miranda, our next-door neighbor," Jane introduced them.

"Hi, nice to meet you guys," Miranda smiled.

"You too, Miranda," Jackie smiled.

"Thier son, Harold Jr, is at home with the flu," Bob explained.

"That's too bad," Miranda said. "My daughter here, Jessica, just got over the flu."

"I guess it's going around then," Jackie said. "Brian just got over it too. I guess that's were Harold got it from."

"Probobly," Miranda laughed.

"Mommy, can I go swim with Brian and Nicky?" Jess asked, tugging on her mother's sundress.

"Of course sweetie. Go ahead," Miranda laughed. Jess ran over to Nick and Brian.

"Hi guys!" she laughed. Nick splashed her in response. "HEY!" she squealed, splashing him back. That started a huge splash fight between the trio of best friends. Jess immediately clicked with the two guys, so now it would always be the three of 'em.
