An hour later, at the phsychiatrist:
A forlorn-looking Jessica sat stiffly on the couch. AJ sat with her, rubbing her back gently. The phsychiatrist walked in, smiling at the young couple.
"Hey guys, my name is Leanne," she introduced herself, smiling.
"I'm AJ and this would be Jessica," AJ smiled softly. "I think," he muttered under his breath.
"Nice to meet you guys. Now AJ, I need you to tell me everything that has happened." And so AJ retold the tale, beginning with her depression stage.
An hour and a half later:
AJ paced the waiting froom tensely. Jessica had been in teh back room with Leanne for almost two hours now.
"AJ calm down before you fall right through the floor!" Miranda laugehd quietly. AJ just nodded and sat across from his two 'mothers' (Denise and Miranda). He could not sit still.
Leanne came out, a somber look on her face. Jessica followed sullenly behind.
"OK guys, I do have some bad news, But, tehre is some good." The three people looked up at the doctor and their beloved girl sadly. "You were right to bring her here, Mrs. McLean. Jessica has a standard case of Multiple Personality Disorder. But, there is good news. As long as Jess helps fight it, and tries to remember what actually happened to get this started, she can get over it." As she said this, everyone smiled a little, a faint glimmer of hope in their tearful eyes.
AJ stood up and wrapped his arms around Jess in a comforting hug. Jessica jsut stood there unblinkingly. Not noticing this, AJ nuzzled her neck and rubbed her back. When she didn't react in any way, he looked up at her with puzzled eyes. Her eyes were emotionless as she stared off into space. AJ sighed and held her tighter.
"AJ?" she said suddenly.
"What's up hun?" he asked softly, staring into her eyes.
"I'm really sorry. But...I know you won't want someone like me around..." Jessica said softly, looking away from his face.
"Are you breaking up with me?" he asked incrediously, looking at her in horror.
"I'm really really sorry, Alex. But why would a guy like you want a girlfriend like me, with an MPD?" she asked quietly, this time looking into his eyes.
"But I lvoe you, Jessie," he said quietly.
"As do I. That's why I am doing this- not for me, but for you."
"But....but....but...." AJ stuttered, tears filling his brown eyes. Jessica jsut looked away in pain. He slowly stepped away from her, shaking his head in disbelief. "No...please....no..." he muttered, tears falling down his cheeks. He had never cried over a girl, until now. Jessica was his life, his love, his everything. As Jessica turned toward her mother and walked out, AJ stood there in shock.
"I am so sorry AJ," Denise murmured, tears filling her own eyes. "I lvoe her as a daughter you know."
"I know Mom," he said softly, staring at the spot where he last held his one true love.
"I hope that was one of her alter-personalites that was doing the talking," Denise and Leanne murmured at teh same time. AJ nodded before walking out the door and heading to the beach.
