A week later:
AJ and Howie had often come over to Nick's house to practice, So Brian and Jess didn't see a lot of him. Unknown to all of her friends, Jess was slowly slipping into depression. After all, her first love- Pat- totally ignored her, probably hated her (according to her), one of her best friends was spending most of his free time with his bandmates- whom Jess had never met, and Brian had basketball practice almost every night. Along with that, Briana was also either ignoring her or being a bitch to her, Anna had told most of Jess's secrets to practically the whole grade, Donna was extremely busy, and Miranda was always at work, so she didn't have a lot of time for her daughter. So of course Jessica felt alone in the world. It's not fun to have the guy you love not only not know it, but also ignore you. She spent most of her time locked in her room, writing depressing stories, poems, and songs. Well, one day Brian decided to come over. He walked right into the house, since he had a key, and walked straight up to Jess's room. The door was locked, so he knocked softly.
"Who is it?" a meek voice came from the room.
"Brian," he replied. The door quickly opened. A short girl, unfamiliar to Brian, stood there. Her shoulder-length blonde hair fell limp around her sullen face. Her eyes were a very dull blue-grey color instead of the sparkling blue they usually were. Worst of all, it was obvious she had lost some weight- and let me tell you, she wasn't overweight at all to begin with. 'This is not Jess. Please, God, this can't be Jess,' Brian begged in his mind.
"Hi, Brian," she said quietly, a small smile starting to light up her face.
"Jessica?" he asked, shocked.
"It's me, Brian." she said.
"You look so...different!" Brian said. "What's wrong? Why haven't you been eating?" With that, Jess broke down into sobs. Brian pulled her to him, and held her tightly.
"They're all gone!" she wailed.
"What?" Brian asked, gently leading her over to the bed and sitting her down on it.
"No one likes me anymore," she said in a childish voice.
"What do you mean? I still love you, your mother still loves you, Nick still loves you!"
"Then why is everyone ignoring me?" she wailed. "First Pat. Then Briana. Then Nick. Then Mom. Then you. Then Donna. And then Anna goes and tells everyone everything I've ever told her!"
"Jess, we aren't trying to ignore you." Brian tried to comfort her.
"Briana is! Pat is!" she said. "And Nick is always with his stupid bandmates. He never even calls me anymore! Donna is always busy. You always have basketball or chorus. Mom is always at work. Who does that leave for me? NOONE!" she screamed.
Brian was alarmed. He never thought that she, of all people, could get like this. He never thought of the extent of what she was going through at this moment. "Jessie, please. I'm here now. I still call you, don't I?" Brian comforted her, rubbing her back gently. She nodded. "See? I'm not trying to ignore you! You're still my best friend, Jessica. And I'm gonna help you through this."
"Thank you so much, Brian," Jess said, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Sh, don't cry," he murmured. "I'll be right back, ok?" Jess nodded. Brian stood up to walk to his next destination- Nick's house.
