Chapter 2- The Intruders

*Brian*

In love? With who? "What do you mean?" I asked, looking at her.

"I mean, I think I'm in love with..." she mumbled the last word, so of course I couldn't hear her. I wonder if she did that on purpose?

"With who?" I asked softly, hopeing for her to tell me. Even if it's not me.... I still wish she'd tell me.

"I'm in love with you," she replied quietly, not looking at me. INstead she stared out at the ocean.

"Oh, geez." I replied softly, a smile lighting up my face. So she does like me.

"You hate me, don't you?" she asked, turning away. Oh no, she must not have seen my face! I didn't want her to cry! I gently took her face in my hands and made her face me.

"No, it's completely the opposite." I said softly, wiping the tears from her face. SUddenly I got the urge to kiss her. I leaned forward, and pressed my lips gently against hers. I quickly pulled away, and looked at her face. She looked surprised and happy. I smiled. She lay her head on my chest, so I put my arms around her and leaned back against the sand dune. She sighed.

"What did I ever do to deserve someone as sweet as you>" she asked, her eyes closed in relaxation.

"Probably the same way I got such a beautiful, sweet girl like you," I replied, smiling.

I heard that statement and held in the laughs. I had never seen Brian so....mushy? That might be the word. Aj and I had come out and followed them, just to see what was going on and how much they liked each other and stuff like that. We were on the other side of the sand dune.

AJ came down carefully from the top of the dune, being careful not to slip. "He kissed her, and now she's leaning agaist him, and he's leaning agaimst the dune!" he whispered, smirking.

"Brian's managed to do it again. Only I hope she doesn't hurt him like Shelly did." I whispered back sighing.

"Jessica doesn't seem like that type of girl." AJ pointed out. "I knew all along that Shelly was trouble."

"yea, whatever." I got up to see what they were doing. Jessica had fallen asleep, and Brian was daydreaming. As I was getting back down, I slipped on the sand and fell down right next to Brian. "Hi?" I said sheepishly. Brian just glared at me.

"Nick! What the hell are you doing here?" he whispered fiercely.

"Looking at the stars?" I said sheepishly, getting up and brushing the sand off me. Brian shook his head, annoyed.

"You were only looking at two 'stars'- me and jess. Besides, it's the middle of the day!" he said.

"It was AJ's idea!" I defended myself. AJ came over and whacked me on the back of the head.

"It was not, you little twerp!" he laughed. Jessica started to wake up.

"Guys, get out of here now!" Brian yelled at us.

"What's going on, Bri?" she asked, yawning and looking at me.

"These little jerks were spying on us the whole time." he replied, glaring at me and AJ. She got this funny look on her face. I think she was mad.

"Um, AJ, we'd better get out of here." I said, looking at Jessica and Brian, than at AJ.

"Good idea!" Aj said. "RUN!" We ran off, with Brian and Jessica close behind. God, that girl is fast! She was almost right behind me, and we started like 5 seconds earlier! Jessica quickly grabbed on to me. I sighed and slowed down, walking back with her.

"What do you think you're doing, spying on us like that?" she asked me, settling down and walking next to me, waiting for Brian and AJ to catch up.

"Ummmmmmmmmmm" I replied, looking sheepishly at the ground. She rolled her eyes at me. Brian came up with AJ tagging behind. Kev and D started craking up when they saw the four of us.

"I guess they found you, huh?" I asked, laughing. Nick and AJ nodded sheepishly. God, those two can be so....wierd, I guess. Jessica and Brian both looked mad. And slightly embarassed.....why? "So, how did you find those two?" I asked Brian and Jessica. I smiled at Jessica, hoping she wouldn't be anything like Shelly....

"He," Brian answered, pointing to Nick, "Fell off the sand dune, somehow." Jessica started to laugh quietly.

"Now how did you manage to do that?" she asked. He blushed.

"Umm, well, actually, the sand slipped from under me, when I was trying to get down..." he said.

"Slipped from under you?" Howie asked. Embarassed, Nick nodded. "How can sand slip from under you?"

Shrugging, Nick replied, "It's not the most stable thing in the world. You should know that!"

"Yea, ok." Jessica said. It looks like she really really likes Brian... and I don't think she recognizes us...that's good, I think...
