Present Day

The present Club, continues its involvement in issues of concern to the fly fishing fraternity. In addition to fly fishing in the streams of the North East, some of the activities the Club is currently involved with include:

Ray Beavis restocking the King

Our home water is the King River, a lovely open river with pools, riffles and runs which are eminently suited to fly fishing. However, as a consequence of its openness and accessibility, it is heavily fished and is not always the easiest place to catch trout!

The club has approximately forty-five members, ranging from farmers to doctors, and is a community-based club. On the first Wednesday of each month we meet at the Wangaratta YMCA building in Ryan Avenue at 7:30pm. After a brief formal meeting, which includes an opportunity for a fishing report from each member (its surprising how vague the localities become if fish were caught!), followed by a guest speaker or special activity/demonstration (fly tying, indoor casting etc). Following this the evening becomes more social, with fishing based stories and discussions being the told and retold. Its amazing how much you can pick up from this part of the evening to improve your fishing, fly tying or understanding of other aspects of fly fishing. Between the General Monthly meetings, Committee meetings are held, concentrating on both the running of the Club and the Club's involvement in promoting fly fishing and enhancing the trout fishery. The Club provides an excellent means for budding fly fishers to learn about fly fishing, as well as allowing more advanced fly fishers to exchange ideas and improve their knowledge. New members are always made welcome.
