The Wantagh FD responded to a working car fire on Tuesday, September 26, 2000, northbound on the Seaford Oysterbay Expressway.  The driver noticing smoke from the engine compartment of her Volkswagen Jetta pulled over to the side of the road and exited her car safely.  The engine and crew from 694 were at the scene within minutes of the alarm and extinguished the fire using water from its onboard tank.  Asst. Chief John Gillen was in charge of fire operations.  No injuries were reported.
