Under a Majestic Oak

This solitary oak tree stands alone in the center of the valley,
witness to an ancient past. Its branching limbs still full and dense
with tender leaves, the oak defies the burden of its age in bursts of
emerald vigor. It seems the perfect home for birds and other small
animals ... only there are no nests upon these branches, no signs of
life other than the tree itself. Instead, hundreds of braids of coarse
hair hang from the branches, swaying gently with the passing breeze.
A smooth slab of stone has been placed a few feet from the tree's trunk.
Strangely, the runes upon the stone pulsate in perfect unison with the
beating of your heart. There is a path to the west, leading away from
this tranquil resting place.

The Pit
[Exits: east up]
This is the room of last resort. If you are weaponless, armorless,
or in need of something you can't afford, this is where you go to
depend on the generosity of others. Veteran adventurers often come
here to unload equipment they can't use, can't sell, or just want to
donate to the less fortunate. Be warned, less scrupulous individuals
have been known to dump cursed equipment here, merely for the pleasure
of seeing the poor suffer. Less than vigilant janitors have left grim
evidence that a choice piece of equipment is occasionally wanted by
more than one person.

A grand staircase leads to the temples above.

Grand Entrance

You stand in an ivory and ebony colored marble room. The hushed
tones of the room give a sense of what is to come. You see a
plaque hanging in mid-air.

Entrance to Temple Courtyard
[Exits: west up]
You stand before a very ornate staircase. The solid marble steps and
polished oak railing lend strength to the temple atmosphere. At the
top of the stairs you can see the beginning of the courtyard.

Lower Temple Courtyard
[Exits: north east south west up down]
The temple courtyard stretches before you. Avenues lead away to the
temples heading north, south, east and west. The staircase leading
down will take you back to the entrance below. The staircase leading
up will take you to the Lesser Gods Temple area. You also see a sign
with directions on it hanging above a rather ominous looking pit.
The sky is rainy and a warm southerly breeze blows.
