The problem of misjudging the distance so early in the battle caused me to fight longer in close combat later on as there were more of them.

The rallying of the three troops brought back some happiness and the attack of the Big ‘Uns on the Chaos Warriors was one in a lifetime. 27 attacks against the Chaos Warriors and only 5 died. Hmmm… not feeling so happy now.

COMMENTS

Every running orc was rallied back, and my BloodThirster was being surrounded. In the meantime I cursed myself for using beastmen units. Their cheapness comes at a price; crappy leadership, and my opponent exploited that to the full. And those 27 attacks against my chaos warriors ??? Amazing bloodlust. At least I killed one of his 2 shamans to keep magic levels at par. But now I was outnumbered….

COMMENTS

I must admit I was very lucky with the dice in this turn. The overrun rule came as an extra bonus after total destroying the Beastmen Chariot. A mistake here was to keep the Shaman away from the Chariot vs Chariot fight, as he might have tipped the scales in my favour.

The attack on the Blood Thirster by the Orc Boyz was a shocker. Unfortunately the Giant got beaten up pretty bad and I am seriously doubting whether he will make it through.

COMMENTS

In his turn : Damn Incredible…rolling sixes and giving 3 wounds to the Blood Thirster !! And the BloodThirster give 5 wounds to the giant…but remains alive with only 1 wound ! And that would be my downfall. Because it effected my next turn decision.

In my turn : First the Bloodletters flee the battle, then I made the fatal mistake with the Blood Thirster to attack the giant and eliminate him. Well, I managed but I lost the combat result to the orc boyz. If I attacked the Orc Boyz I would have inflicted about 7 wounds. With a great penalty to the leadership, he fled, and being at the corner of the table…he fled the battlefield. What an insult to Khorne…but he would return with a vengeance !!

Orcs Comments : This was my first time against a Chaos army and I must admit I was scared as I knew practically nothing. Overall I must say that the dice rolls were in my favour today (except for the pesky Scatter & Artillery dice). The Giant performed very well in the battle but I would have liked to see more action from the General. That was one major problem I had. The General was following the Blood Thirster all over the place and it was not getting a chance to fit and cause some carnage. All in all a very nice battle…what can I say …. WAAGGHH !!!

Chaos Comments :

1) I think that I attribute this defeat mostly to my wrong reasoning. I usually played with an Empire army, which is most of the time defensive and which relies heavily upon missile and magical attacks. Chaos work on the opposite basis, ie, rush forward and hack em, without any missile attacks and basic magic (due to a Khorne based army). I rushed forward, but then was over cautious at the right opportunities. I also expected my greenskin opponent to charge too into battle, but I was surprised as he played very defensively. This gave him the opportunity to first charge my units. Anyway…it was the first time I was playing with Chaos.

2) My 7 chaos knights + Aspiring Champion (hero) never managed to charge into battle. Therefore a total of 426 points were wasted.

3) Although not sure if beastmen can join a chaos warrior/daemon army (as I have to wait for about a year for the Chaos army book !), I opted to have a unit of Gors and another of Ungors. They were cheap, and I thought that it would have a been a good decision as I was going to get outnumbered most of the time. But they had a crappy leadership, and my opponent exploited this weakness, caused them to panic, and in turn caused some of my chaos warriors to panic. No more cowards !

4) I forgot that the Bloodletters (lesser daemons of Khorne) had 2 attacks each.

5)The final fatal error was caused due to my inexperience with a Greater daemon.

 a) Did not give the Mark of Khorne to him (Chaos Reward)

 b) Forgot that he had a natural daemon armour save of 4+

 c) Charged in the corner of the table, attacked the wrong target, was outnumbered which caused the Bloodthirster to take a leadership test -5 and fled off the table, end of story. Very stupid.

Well...I don't know why, but I felt humiliated. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I lost. But not to lose in such a stupid way. I knew I wanted to change everything, learn from mistakes, know no fear, and that I had to play it again to get my confidence back. But remember that the Blood Thirster did not die, but only fled for reinforcements … :)
