Exhibition Game for the Storm
April 18, 2004
Steve and his dream come true--playing hockey with his two boys (though Lewis is on the opposite team).

Glossary of players:  Steve wears the red helmet, white pants, and is #40.  Lewis is wearing a blue and yellow jersey as he plays for the opposite team, Patrick is #10 and wears green pants and black helmet.
Though one never likes to acknowledge money as being part of such a lofty sport as hockey, practical considerations must sometimes intervene.  One hot and windy Sunday afternoon, the Central Kansas Storm hockey team played an exhibition game as a fundraiser to garner funds for new hockey nets, as well as to pay for tournament fees for an upcoming game in Lee's Summit, Missouri in May.  The men played hockey, while wives and families sold baked goods and and raffle tickets for the event.
Admittedly, it was not an ideal day for hockey, nor for selling things, for that matter.  The weather forecast the day before ominously predicted a "wind advisory" and a wind advisory for central Kansas is no laughing matter.  Wind gusts were measured as high as 54.1 mph and the thermometer topped out at 90 sunny degrees.

Yet the players skated valiantly on, even against the winds, and put on a good show for all to see.
From the perspective of the opposing team, Lewis was later heard to declare Dad "a nuisance", as he proved to still be speedy, and seemed to be everywhere at once!
