43rd (WESSEX) DIVISION

The Wessex Division was a Territorial Force Division already in existence at the outbreak of the war. The Division and Brigades were not numbered until April 1915 previously just named. The Division went to India in October 1914 and remained there sending many drafts to fighting units in the Middle East.

130th (Devon and Cornwall) Brigade.

1/4th Bn Devonshire Regt. 04 Aug 1914 - Dec 1914. To the 3rd Lahore divisional area.
1/5th Bn Devonshire Regt. 04 Aug 1914 - Dec 1914. To the 3rd Lahore divisional area.
1/6th Bn Devonshire Regt. 16 Sep 1914 - Dec 1914. To the 3rd Lahore divisional area.
1/4th Bn Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. 04 Aug 1914 - Nov 1914. To the 7th Meerut divisional area.
1/5th Bn Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. 04 Aug 1914 - 16 Sep 1914. Left the Division, remaining in England until May 1916. The volunteers for overseas were posted to the 1/4th Bn. The Battalion became the Pioneer Bn in the 61st Division in Apr 1916.
