The Regiment was raised by Royal Warrant on 26 Feb 1915.

1st Bn. Regular. Formed in Feb 1915 eventually joined the 3rd (Guards) Brigade, Guards Division.

2nd (Reserve) Bn. Regular. Formed at Wellington Barracks in Aug 1915. Stayed in the UK and supplied drafts to the 1st Bn.
