Title: Into the Forge Book I of the Hel's Crucible Duology Author: Dennis L. McKiernan Summary: A fell and ancient sorcery has thrust the kingdoms surrounding the mighty Grimwall mountains into battle with forces of great evil. When Tip and Beau, two Warrows from the village of Twofolks, try to save a mortally wounded soldier, they inherit a vital mission. The dying swordsman gives them a simple copper coin and a cryptic message: "Take the coin east to Agron, and warn all." But the East holds terrors beyond anything Tip and Beau have ever known. Modru, the Black Mage, has begun his violent reign over the Free Folk--and unleashed his army of deadly emissaries on the young Warrows. Now Tip and Beau's mysterious quest has become a matter of life and death. For their momentous arrival in Agron will signal a war that threatens to destroy worlds far beyond their beloved Mithgar... Review: A mysterious copper coin that is not really important at all with the story but it acts as an escape goat, two Warrows who unnecessarily cry at any moment there's a death, pointless dialogues, stretching of the point of the story, unexcused emotional scenes that are not worthwhile, and incomprehensible ending are all negative aspects of this book. Now, I am a big fan of Dennis McKiernan ever since I read the IRON TOWER trilogy. He is a good writer and when I saw this book I was thrilled to read it. But after I have read it, I was really disappointed. The story was by all simple, no twist at all. I was not having a good time at all during my reading. There are times when I would just cry out, "What is the whole point of this portion of the story?" and "Why is this Warrow crying just about all the time at almost every situation when someone happen to die or cry?" Sigh, the characters are not believable at all and everything that they do resembles that of a Saturday cartoon. There was no realism in this book, just lots of annoyance. It was a really, truly disappointing novel in my opinion...but I still like Dennis Mckiernan... Rating: 5 out of 10
