WASHBURN July 22 [1940]--Phyllis E. Umphrey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Umphrey of this town, became the bride of Edmund J. Rollins in a Garden ceremony at the home of the bride's parents in Washburn Saturday afternoon. The Rev. E. Milton Grant of Presque Isle performed the single ring service.
The bride wa gowned in white silk jersey, fashioned en train with long sleeves and a wide shirred girdle:- .Her fingertip veil was of net and tulle. She carried a colonial bouquet of lily of the valley-. sweet peas, and gypsophila.
The matron of honor, Ardis V. McCall, sister of the bride, was gowned in a flamingo dress with long sleeves and shirred bodice. The colonial bouquet which she carried corresponded with matching flowers in her hair. It was composed of light blue delphinium and gypsophila.
Donald G. Umphrey, brother of the bride, was Best man.
The garden was decorated with baskets of blue and white delphinium and white phlox. A white arch amidst evergreens formed a background for the wedding group. Mrs. Franklin Washburn played Wagner's "Bridal March," Mendelssohn's "Wedding March,'' and incidental music before the ceremony. The ushers were John C. McCall and Franklin Washburn.
The bride's mother wore a gray and flamingo chiffon dress complemented by a shoulder corsage of flamingo rosebuds and a broad brimmed hat of natural straw. The guest book was in charge of Miss Barbara Umphrey, while Mrs. Wallace T. Wortle presided at the gift table. After the ceremony a supper was served at the North-estland hotel m Presque Isle.
The couple left by car for a trip through upper Canada. Mrs, Rollins wore a tailored print dress of aqua and chocolate brown with a fitted brown linen coat lined with the matching print of the dress. Her accessories were chocolate brown with print hat. The couple will be at home in Durham, N. H., after Aug. 1.
Mrs. Rollins attended Oak Grove seminary in Vasselboro, the University of Maine, and Katharine Gibbs school in Boston. She has been employed by the Liberty Mutual Insurance company in Boston.
Mr. Rollins is a graduate of Bently School of Accounting and the University of New Hampshire, where he is now employed. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
