Ruth Louise Lancaster Becomes Bride Of George Franklin Washburn

Miss Ruth Louise Lancaster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lancaster of Washburn, was united in marriage to George Franklin Washburn, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Washburn of this town in an attractive wedding solemnized at the Washburn Baptist church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

The Rev. Errol R. Farrar of Ellsworth performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of 250 friends and relatives. The Rev, J. L. Quigg of Washburn assisted in the service.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was gowned in white satin with finger tip veil, and she carried a shower bouquet of pink roses, valley lilies, and white sweet peas. Miss Phyllis Umphrey was maid of honor, wearing a gown of red and blue. The Misses Kathleen and Betty Lancaster, sisters of the bride, were bridesmaids, Miss Kathleen wearing a gown of pink lace and Miss Betty blue lace. Loretta Thompson and Helen Russell were flower girls.

Robert McEachern of Presque Isle attended the bridegroom, and the ushers were William Haskell and Roy Harris of Presque Isle. The bridal chorus from Lohengrin was played by Miss Chevala Savage of Caribou for the processional, and the recessional was Mendelssohn's wedding march, "I Love You Truly" was sung by Mrs. George M. Carter of Caribou.

The church was beautifully decorated with flowers for the ceremony. A reception was held in the church vestry immediately after the ceremony, and in the receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lancaster, Kathleen Lancaster, the bride and groom Miss Phyllis Umphrey and Betty Lancaster. Refreshments were served.

Those who attended from Presque Isle were the bridegroom's parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Washburn, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heggan, Mr. and Mrs. Parker Burleigh. Dr, and Mrs. E.B. Griffeths, Mr. and Mrs. William Halloran, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Wight Mr. and Mrs. Edward Howe, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bean, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sutter, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Kent, Miss Mary Stafford, Miss Laura Hemphill, Miss Madeline Keirstead, Miss Nadine Randell, Miss Beryl Connant Miss Marion Currier, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Hayden, Mrs. Lewis Gould, Mrs. Myra Cook, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hussey, Mrs. Arnold Greene, Miss Louise Rand, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Wheeler, Miss Barbara O'Connell, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Cunningham, Miss Arlyne McEachern and Jack O'Donnell.

The couple left by motor for a ten days' trip of unannounced destination and will make their home in the W. S. Thompson apartment, second street, Presque Isle. For her traveling costume the bride choose a tan silk suit with japonica accessories.

Mrs. Washburn, who is an accomplished musician, is a graduate of Washburn High School and the Maine School of Commerce and has been employed in Presque Isle for the past two years. Mr. Washburn, a graduate of Presque Isle High School and Bryant & Stratton Business College, Boston. is in the starch business with his father in Presque Isle.
