OBITUARY

The community has been saddened in the death of Mrs. Augusta Churchill, one of the town's oldest and highly respected citizens which occurred Sunday, March 12 at her late home. She was born February 23, 1862 in West Levant. She came to Washburn in 1887 as a clerk in her brother's store. She married Amos Churchill who died in 1916. Of this union there were four sons, all of whom survive: Ross L. Churchill of Baltimore. Md.; Walter, Ernest and Wilmot of Washburn; besides fifteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, also two brothers, Ross E. Shaw of Burbank, California and Ernest L. Shaw, St. Petersburg, Florida.

The deceased had been in declining health during the past year. She was tenderly cared for at the home of Mr home of her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot J. Churchill and her home where she had lived most of her married life. She was a loyal member of the Washburn Baptist Church, the ladies' Circle, the W. C. T. U. and was an active member of Prosperity Rebekah lodge being a past Noble Grand. She will be greatly missed, in her home and among her many friends in this community where she had lived and worked for the past 52 years. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John L. Quigg, assisted by the Rev. Lester Goodwin Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church. Musical selections were rendered by the Rev. and Mrs. Lester Goodwin, the Rev. J. L. Quigg and a quartette consisting of Mrs Ethel Lancaster, Mrs. Mary Umphrey Alec Duncan, C. E. Knox, Mrs. Mildred Umphrey, pianist. The bearers were four sons. Many beautiful flowers were in testimony of the departed sister's esteem in the community, arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Annie E. Durepo, assisted by H. K. Craves of Presque Isle.

Interment will be in the family plot in Crouseville.

Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were Ross L. Churchill of Baltimore, Md.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Donald Woodbury of North Adams, Mass.; Mrs. Herbert Moran and sons of Presque Isle and Mrs. Ada Shaw, Caribou.
