Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knowles of Presque Isle announce the marriage of their daughter, Irene Mae Knowles to Mr. Clifford J. McGaughy of Washburn. The Rev. David Hickland performed the ceremony which took place in the presence of the immediate families at the home of the bride's parents, on Saturday afternoon, July 29, at 2:00 o'clock.
Mrs. McGaughy is a graduate of Presque Isle High School and has attended the University of Maine. Mr. McGaughy is a graduate of Washburn High School and of Colby College. He has taught in the Washburn and Presque Isle High Schools, is a past representative to the Maine Legislature, received his Master's Degree from the University of Maine in 1938, and for the last year has been the Superintendent of Schools in the Washburn-Wade-Perham district.
After a short Wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. McGaughy will reside in Washburn.
