Dr. Paul Gordon Favour Reads Single Ring Service

ASHLAND, Aug. 17 [1939]--Miss Mary Lucretia Smith, daughter of Mrs. J. Allen Smith and the late J. Allen Smith, became the bride of Francis L. Strout, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Strout of Milbridge at the Emmanuel Episcopal church here at 10:30 Wednesday morning. The single ring service was read by Dr. Paul Gordon Favour of the Presque Isle Episcopal church before a large group of relatives and friends.

The front of the church was decorated with large baskets of goldenrod and wild white asters. The altar had bouquets of yellow and white flowers.

The bride was given in marriage by her mother. Maid of honor was Miss Doris Currier of Ox Bow. Laurel Stimpson of Presque Isle was best man. Linwood Seeley and Randolph Smith were ushers. The Rev. Daniel Fox, pastor of Emmanual Episcopal church, was organist and played several selections as the guests gathered. The wedding party entered to the strains of the Bridal chorus from Lohengrin by Wagner, and the wedding march from Mid-summer Night's Dream by Mendelssohn was played.

Mr. Fox also played "I Love You Truly" by Carrie Jacob Bond and "O Promise Me" by Reginald DeKoven. The bride wore white chiffon princess style with long sleeves and a train, with a short tulle veil caught with a coronet of seed pearls. She carried an arm bouquet of calla lilies. Her maid of honor wore blue organza with a blue coronet and carried pink snap dragons. Mrs. J. Allen Smith, mother of the bride wore blue crepe with white accessories and a corsage of yellow and white flowers. Mrs. Strout mother of the bridegroom, wore brown lace with white accessories and a corsage of yellow of white flowers.

An informal reception was held in the church vestibule and a wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's aunt, Miss Hannah Clayton.

Those attending the breakfast were Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Strout and Dr. and Mrs. Leighton of Milbridge, Mrs. J. Allen Smith, Miss Hannah Clayton, Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Stimpson and Dr. Paul Gordon Favour of Presque Isle, Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Seeley, Miss Doris Currier, the Rev. Daniel Fox, Randolph Smith and the bride and bridegroom.

The breakfast was served by Miss Dora Jean Coffin and Mrs. Nathaniel Mooers. A decorated bride's cake and wedding cake were served by the bride at the breakfast. Following the breakfast, the couple left for a short wedding trip and after August 28, will be at home in South Berwick where Mr. Strout is principal of the grammar school. The bride chose as her traveling outfit a blue tan tailored suit with white accessories. The bride's gift to her maid of honor was a mother of pearl locket and the best man's gift was a tie set. Mrs. Strout was graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton and from Colby College in the class of 1933. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. She has held teaching positions at Ashland, Washburn and Mars Hill. Mr. Strout is a graduate of Milbridge High school and of Gorham Normal school. He has attended several sessions of summer school at the University of Maine, working for his bachelor's degree. He has held several teaching positions.
