Barbara Woodman Becomes Bride of Lt. Frank A. Smith, Jr.


WASHBURN, Feb. 7 [1943]--A military wedding of local interest took place at Camp Claiborne, La., in Division Headquarters chapel, at 8:30 p. m. Monday. Jan. 25, when Barbara Elizabeth Woodman, daughter of Mrs. Bertha E. Woodman of Washburn, became the bride of Lt. Frank A. Smith, Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Smith of Presque Isle, in a double ring ceremony performed by Chaplain William Patrick.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Vernum E. Woodman of Washburn, was beautiful in a floor length gown of Ivory satin trimmed with ivory velvet, and wore a net dutch cap trimmed with seed pearls and orange blossoms. She carried a bride's bouquet of white gladioli tied with ivory satin. Her matron of honor, Mrs. Carroll McHenry, wore a blue chiffon gown which she complimented with a red corsage.

The bridegroom was attended by Captain C.E. McHenry. Traditional wedding marches were played by the chapel organist.

Returning to Alexandria, the bridal party was served a dinner in the beautiful Venetian room of the Hotel Bentley, where reserved tables had been attractively decorated, having a brides cake for centerpiece. Dinner music and dancing was enjoyed. The orchestra soloist sang "I Love You Truly" in honor of the bridal party, and the bride, matron of honor, and other ladies in the party had their portraits drawn in crayon by an artist during the evening.

The bridegroom had been given a four day leave of absence so he and his bride left Tuesday for a short wedding trip to Baton Rouge, La., and New Orleans.

Their present address will be 706 Scott street, Alexandria, La. Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Aroostook State Norma school and taught, two years in Caribou. She has recently been employed at the Presque Isle air base.

Lt. Smith is a graduate of the agricultural course at the University of Maine, and prior to entering the service, was connected with Gould and Smith in the machinery business in Presque Isle.
