OBITUARY
Harley S. Estey died suddenly at his home on School Street Saturday evening, April 15. He was
born in Jacksonville, N. B., Aug. 1878, the son of Wellington and Nettie Estey. His early life was
spent on the home farm in Washburn, in what was called the Everett district situated on the old
Caribou road. He married Emily Whitehouse, who survives him. Of this union there were four
children: one son, Kenneth; three daughters: Mrs. Pearl Learnard Mrs. Verna Churchill, of
Washburn; Mrs. Glenna Blackstone of Perham. He also leaves ten grandchildren: Glade Learnard
of Worcester, Cpl. Weldon Learnard, No. Africa; Mrs. Marion Flannigan of South Meriden,
Conn; Miss Lois Learnard, Washburn; Mrs. Phyllis Allen, Wilma, Wayne and Mavis Churchill of
Washburn; Wendell and Paul Blackstone of Perham; two great-grandchildren, Bobby Learnard of
Worcester and Teddy Flannigan of South Meriden, Conn. Eighteen years ago the family moved
from the farm to their present home on School Street. Mr. Estey was a member of the Baptist
Church and had served as a deacon for many years. He was a Christian gentleman of fine
character and highly respected in the community. He will be greatly, missed in the home circle and
in the church, where he was a faithful attendant. Funeral services were held from the Baptist
Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. Nelson E. Felch officiated. Rev. Stillman
Mullen of Perham offered prayer. The bearers were Harold Learnard, Wilmot Churchill, Reuben
Whitehouse, Carroll Blackstone, Glade Learnard, Earl Whitehouse. The choir sang two favorite
selections, "He Knows the Way" and "Sometime We'll Understand." Many friends and relatives
were in attendance to pay their last respects to a dear friend; and loved one. The floral tributes
were many and beautiful.
