
WASHBURN, June 16 [1944] Funeral services for Pvt. Leston R. Tingley, 19, son of Myrth and the Ernest Tingley, who died suddenly June 2nd at Port Ord, Monterey, Cal. after an emergency operation, were held at the Lidstone Memorial Methodist church Sunday at 2 p. m. The remains were accompanied here from California by Cpl. George Kirnan of his company. Rev. Nelson Felch of the Baptist church officiated and prayer was offered by Rev. Kenneth Cook of the Methodist church. Two selections, "Thy Will be Done" and "Abide With Me" were sung by the junior choir of the church.
Bearers were Pfc. William Baker, Pvt. Phillip McIsaac. Eugene Wilcox and Ralph Amero. Members of Oscar Dow Post and a detachment of service men from the Presque Isle Air Base acted as escort to the procession to the church and also escorted the remains to Riverside cemetery where last military rites were conducted by Oscar Dow Post, American Legion. Leston entered the service August 13, 1943 and prior to that was employed with the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad company.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Myrth Tingley; five sisters, Mrs. Pauline Greenleaf of Limestone, Mrs. Ruth Wark of Pennsylvania, Ceola, Jean and Eska of Washburn; five brothers, Lowell of Washburn, Pvt. Stephen in England, Raymond, Theodore and Keith of Washburn: grandmother, Mrs. Maude Stairs and many other relatives.
