Miss Erma E. Dow Becomes Bride

MAPLETON, July 12 [1944] -- Miss Erma E. Dow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Dow, Mapleton, became the bride of Ghernot L,. Knox of Presque Isle, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Knox, in a pretty candlelight wedding at the United Baptist church, Mapleton at 8 o'clock recently. The church was attractively decorated with candelabra, baskets of peonies, and lupine, making a lovely setting for the ceremony which was performed by the Rev. H. L. Christie of Presque Isle who read the double ring ceremony. He was assisted by the Rev. Hugh Westrup of Mapleton.

An arch of ferns studded with white roses formed a beautiful background for the bridal party. The traditional "Bridal Chorus" from "Lohengrin" was played by Miss Marjorie Larsson of New Sweden, and "I Love You Truly" was sung by Dana Nickerson of Presque Isle.

The bride, who was given away by her father, was lovely in a white satin gown with long pointed sleeves and a marquisette skirt en train. The orange blossom brooch on her gown matched the orange blossoms on her fingertip veil. She carried a white Bible topped with white roses and satin streamers caught with green spray.

Miss Eleanor Dow, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She was attired in a yellow gown with fitted jersey bodice and net skirt, and carried n colonial bouquet. Miss Myrtle Dow, sister of the bride was bridesmaid. She was dressed in a blue satin gown and carried a colonial bouquet. Little four-year-old Cheryl Waddell of Mapleton was the flower gill. She was sweet in her long green dress. She wore a shoulder corsage of carnations.

Fred Perry attended the bride-groom as best man, and the ushers were Prescott Dow and Earl Dow, brothers of the bride.

The bride's mother was attractively dressed in navy blue and white with white accessories. Her costume was completed with shoulder corsage of red roses. The bridegroom's mother was attired in Pink with white accessories, and wore a shoulder corsage of red roses.

Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held in the church vestry which was decorated in blue and white. Mrs. Prescott Dow was in charge of the guest book, and Mrs. Earl Dow was in charge of the gift table.

The serving was under the direction of Mrs. Wallace Higgins who was assisted by Rachel and Mariam Higgins. Miriam Westup, Frances Foss, Mrs. Hilston Kilcollins, and Esther Kelly. Incidental music was played by Miss Marjorie Larson and Esther Higgins. The young couple left for a short wedding trip, and will be at home at 1 Vassell street. Wollaston, Mass.

The bride was graduated from Mapleton High school and Aroostook State Normal school and was employed in Washburn. The bride-groom was graduated from Presque Isle High school, Aroostook State. Normal school and has secured his B. S. degree from Boston university.
