Washburn Girl Weds Winterport Veteran In Bar Harbor

BAR HARBOR, June 11 [1945]--Miss Erma Mae Stairs, daughter of Mrs. Laude S. Stairs of Washburn, became the bride of James Henry Foley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Foley of Winterport, at eight o'clock Monday morning, June 11, at the rectory of the Holy Redeemer church in Bar Harbor, the Rev. Father Edward F. Fitzpatrick officiating at a double ring ceremony. The bride wore a pearl gray wool suit with petal pink accessories and a white orchid corsage. Her attendant, Mrs. P. J. Harrigan, a sister from Portland, wore a fuchsia wool suit with white accessories and a gardenia corsage.

The best man was Postmaster F. Philip Foley of Winterport, brother of the bridegroom. The bride's mother wore a black crepe dress with white accessories and corsage of lavender and white roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a blue silk crepe dress with white accessories and corsage of American Beauty roses. At the wedding breakfast at the Penobscot hotel in Bangor, the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Foley, the bride's mother, Mrs. Maude Stairs, and Mrs. Charlotte Carter, cousin of the bride, assisted in receiving. Special music at the breakfast was furnished by Kathryn Ann Foley, young niece of the bridegroom.

The bride is a member of the High school faculty at Bar Harbor. She attended Washburn high school and graduated from the University of Maine, majoring in languages, She is a Kappa Psi.

The bridegroom is employed as a civil engineer by the State of Maine, with headquarters at the State House, Augusta. He attended Winterport high school and took special courses in civil engineering at the University of Maine and University of Wisconsin. He is a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.

The bridal couple left by train for a honeymoon in Washington, D. C. and will be at home at Orono after July 1.
