Avis Merritt Becomes Bride Of A. S. Churchill

HOULTON, Aug. 2 [1946] -- Thursday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Donald P. Ellis or Houlton, Miss Avis E. Merritt, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter W. Merritt, became the bride of Amos S. Churchill son of Mrs. Herbert Moran of Presque Isle. The double ring ceremony was read by Rev. Herman A. Grant in the presence of the immediate families. The bride was attractively gowned in an aqua street-length dress with white accessories and wore a gardenia corsage. Attending her as her matron of honor was her sister, Mrs Donald F. Ellis, who wore a gray and white sheer dress and a mixed corsage. The mother of the bridegroom was lovely in blue with a corsage of pink gladioli. Byron Churchill, brother of the bridegroom was the best man. Mr. Churchill has been a teacher of English at Presque Isle high school. Mr. Churchill returned to the states the first of the year after over three years in the U. S. Army, 29 months of which were spent in the South Pacific. Mr. Churchill is engaged in farming in Presque Isle where they will reside.
