Ettinger of Taylorville, Ill. at a pretty candlelight wedding in the Washburn Baptist church recently with Rev. Reed Holmes of Somerville, Mass. performing the double ring ceremony.

Washburn Girl Weds In Pretty Church Ceremony

WASHBURN Aug. 5 [1946] -- The Washburn Baptist church was the scene of a beautiful candlelight wedding Thursday evening when Betty Jean Russell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Russell became the bride of Cecil R. Ettinger of Taylorville, Ill. Rev. Reed Holmes of Somerville, Mass., performed the double ring ceremony.

The church altar was decorated with baskets of all white flowers and candles against a background of evergreen. The lighting was two large candelabra and a lighted cross, The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Harold Umphrey of Washburn.

Miss Barbara Blackstone was at the organ and played incidental music and traditional wedding

marches. Immediately before the ceremony, the bride's uncle, Stuart Duncan; or Fort Fairfield sang "Because" and '"I Love You Truly."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white tulle and satin with round neckline long pointed sleeves, fitted bodice of lace and full skirt with long train. Her veil was one worn by her cousin, Mrs. William Seaman of Seattle, Wash. at her wedding in 1940. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses and baby's breath.

The maid of honor was Miss Laurine Thompson of Washburn. She wore a gown of blue tulle and lace over satin and carried Colonial bouquet.

The bridesmaids, Mary and Helen Russell, sisters of the bride, wore pink taffeta gowns and carried Colonial bouquets.

The flower girls, Virginia Russell and Roberta Duncan, cousins of the bride, wore white embossed organdy.

Maurice Russell, brother of bride, was best man. The ushers were Hartson Blackstone, Jr. and

Wendell Mullen of Perham, classmates of the bride.

The bride's mother wore a pink dress with corsage of white gardenias.

Immediately following the ceremony the bridal party returned to the church parlors, where the receiving line was formed under an arch of pink and white against a background of evergreen. The arch being the same one used at the wedding ceremony of the bride's parents 24 years ago. Refreshments were in charge of Mrs. Victoria Wilder and a group of assistants.

The bride's cake was cut by Mrs. Stuart Duncan after the first slice was cut by the bride and bridegroom. The cake had three layers and was made and decorated by Mrs. Gustaf Lundgren of New Sweden. Mrs. Alice Rideout had charge of the guest book.

The bride is a graduate of Washburn high school and Graceland college, Lamon, Ia.

The bridegroom is also a graduate of Graceland and will continue his studies at Iowa University this fall, where the couple will reside.

Following the reception, the couple left for a brief wedding trip. For traveling the bride wore a blue wool gabardine suit with white accessories.

Mr. Ettinger, for the last three years, has served as a captain and pilot in the U. S. Air Force with a record of 72 missions in the European theater.
