Miss Irene Porter Wed In Washburn

WASHBURN, July 30 [1947] -- The Washburn Baptist church was the scene of an attractive wedding recently when Miss Lois Irene Porter daughter of Mrs. Kate Porter, became, the bride of Gerald Stoddard Jardine, son of William Jardine. Rev. Philip C. Hughey, Jr., officiated, using the double ring service.

Baskets of garden flowers decorated the alter for the ceremony which was attended, by more than 250 relatives and guests of the young couple. Mrs. Wilmont J, Churchill, church organist, played the traditional wedding marches and incidental music including "Because" and "Always" sung by Betty Ettinger.

The bride, who was escorted by her brother-in-law, Zalie Smith, was lovely in a white satin gown in train with round neckline, long sleeves and fitted bodice. Her finger-tip veil of white illusion fell from a coronet of seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of white asters with streamers. Mrs. Quentin Jardine was matron of honor and was attired in a blue gown fashioned with fitted bodice and matching veil. She carried a colonial bouquet.

Quentin Jardine, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Richard Porter and Heber Umphrey.

Bridesmaids were Pauline Thompson and Mary Russell who wore gowns of blue and pink taffeta respectively. Their bouquets were colonial style.

Pearl Russell, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Her dress was of pink satin and net.

The bride's' mother wore a black gown with white accessories as did the bridegroom's mother. Both wore similar corsages.

A reception in the church vestry followed the ceremony and baskets of garden flowers were used in decorating.

Assisting in serving were Ethel Carver, Victoria Wilder, Vera Bell, Minnie Anderson, Annie Hopper, Ethel Lancaster and Eula Cunningham. Mrs. Basil Fox was in charge of the guest book.

Mr. and Mrs. Jardine left that evening for a wedding trip the destination of which was not announced. On their return they will make their home at their new bungalow being erected on Main street extension.

The bride was graduated from Washburn high school as was the bridegroom, who is engaged at

farming with his father.
