Elizabeth Lavway Becomes Bride Of Jasper Umphrey

WASHBURN, Aug. 28 [1947] -- Miss Elizabeth B. Lavway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Lavway, and Jasper W. Umphrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Umphrey, were married in a lovely wedding at the Advent church, Crouseville.

The Rev. Woodrow DeVoe officiated, reading the double ring service.

The church was decorated with baskets of garden flowers. Miss Ruby Richardson played incidental music and the wedding march Harry E. Duncan, soloist, sang "Always" and "I Love You Truly."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attractive in a gown of white Spanish lace with long sleeves. Her floor-length veil of net fell from a jeweled coronet and she carried a bouquet of red and white roses.

Miss Wilder Silver, maid of honor wore blue satin and net with finger-tip veil and a bouquet of peach gladiolus.

Bridesmaids were Miss Patricia Browne and Miss Lycette McBurnie who were dressed in blue and pink respectively, and carried similar bouquets of snapdragons.

Ginger Russell and Roberta Duncan, flower girls and Doris Smith, train carrier, wore long white dresses.

Gary Umphrey, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Heber Umphrey and Clair Lavway were

ushers.

RECEPTION HELD

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the Mission home where Mrs. Constance Crouse had charge of refreshments will Mrs. Florence Treveline cut and served the wedding cake.

The couple left for a trip which will include Quebec and the White Mountains. The bride's going away suit was light tan with peach accessories.

Mrs. Umphrey was graduated from the Washburn high school in June and has been living at home.

Mr. Umphrey also attended Washburn high school and served two years overseas in the U. S. Army.

The couple will make their home on the Washburn-Caribou road where Mr. Umphrey is engaged in farming.
