
WASHBURN BRIDE -- Mrs. Shirlie B. Bailey, above, was Miss Elocile Churchill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milford Churchill of Washburn before her recent marriage.
Solos were sung by Mrs. Ruby Currie of Caribou, Richard Caswell of Middleboro, Mass., and Mrs. Eileen Sperrey of Washburn.
The altar was beautifully decorated with a background and arch of evergreens scattered with bride's bouquet. Streamers of white crepe paper and baskets of gladioli and carnations added to the decorating scheme. Miss Adina Churchill, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. The Misses Gwendolyn Churchill and Iris Valley were bridesmaids. Linda Churchill acted as flower girl and Jerome Churchill was the ringbearer. Both are cousins of the bride.
Harold Bither of Houlton was best man and William Springer of Bridgewater and Winston Hunter of Houlton were the users.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in a gown of ivory satin, with fitted bodice,
marquisette yoke and full court train. She carried a spray of white gladioli tied with white satin ribbons from which hung streamers caught with white sweet peas.
The maid of honor wore a gown of yellow taffeta with shoulder-length veil of netting and headband of matching color. She carried a spray of blue and violet gladioli.
The bridesmaid's gowns were of blue and pink taffeta with shoulder length veil of netting and headbands to match. They carried sprays of contrasting colors.
The flower girl wore a floor-length gown of soft summer silk and a headband of sweet peas. She carried a basket of mixed flowers. Streamers of contrasting ribbon tied with sweet peas fell from the basket.
Mrs. Churchill, mother of the bride, wore a black crepe dress, complemented with a corsage of pink roses. The mother of the bridegroom was unable to attend.
A reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the church vestry with about 250 relatives and friends in attendance.
The bride's mother and Mrs. Springer, sister of the bridegroom, assisted the bridal party in the receiving line. Miss Elizabeth Churchill, cousin of the bride, was in charge of the guest book. Mrs. Winston Hunter and Mrs. William Springer, assisted by Mrs. Mildred Pettengill, were in charge of the gift table.
A three-tiered wedding cake was served by Mrs. Ona Allen. Refreshments were in charge of Mrs. Kenneth Harris, assisted by Mrs. George Seward and Mrs. Gerald Seward. Those who helped in serving were the Misses Jeanette Gregg, Ethel Clayton, Evelyn Smith, Jane Davis, Leila Richardson, Anna Harris and Mrs. Odelle Dickinson.
Mr. and Mrs. Bailey left for a wedding trip with the bride choosing a navy blue gabardine suit with pink accessories. Her suit was complemented by a corsage of pink roses.
The bride is a graduate of Washburn high school in 1946, and attended Zion Bible institute for two years. The bridegroom is a graduate of the same school in 1947. They both are prospective missionaries to Africa.
Among the many guests from surrounding towns were Mr. and Mrs. Hadley Bailey and the Rev. and Mrs. Cyrus Tarbox of Lincoln. Out of state guests were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Caswell and Mrs. Warren Holmes and son Nathan, all of Massachusetts.
