WASHBURN BRIDE -- Miss, Joan Adella Wilder of Washburn and Kenneth B. Flewelling of Crouseville, were married recently in Washburn. Rev. Philip C. Hughey, Jr., performed the double ring ceremony at the Washburn United Baptist church.

Miss Joan Wilder Becomes Bride Of Kenneth Flewelling

WASHBURN, Feb. 27 [1949] --Miss Joan Adella Wilder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll D. Wilder of Washburn, and Kenneth Bearl Flewelling, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bearl Flewelling of Crouseville, were married here recently in a candlelight ceremony at the United Baptist church. Rev. Philip C. Hughey, Jr., Pastor of the church, performed the double ring ceremony.

The church was decorated with two large baskets of gladiolus on the platform and with candles at the windows and on the platform.

Music for the occasion was provided by Gustaf Johnson who sang "Because" and by Rev. Woodrow Devoe who sang "I Love You So." Both were accompanied by Mrs. Verna Churchill.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a white gown of slipper satin with sweet-heart neckline outlined with seed pearls, long-pointed sleeves, fitted bodice, and a full skirt, and long train. She wore a finger-tip veil connected to a band of white orange blossoms. Her bouquet was made up of white gladiolus mixed with white sweet peas.

Mrs. Carroll Kelley, a sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and wore a lavender gown of rayon poplin. She carried a colonial bouquet of pink carnations and mixed sweet peas.

The bridesmaids were Miss Joanne Crouse and Miss Loretta Thompson, cousin of the bride, with Miss Crouse wearing a pink gown of rayon poplin and Miss Thompson wearing an aqua gown of rayon. Both had colonial bouquets of carnations and sweet peas.

The bride's mother wore a dark green dress with white hat and gloves, and a corsage of bronze roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue dress with white felt hat and white gloves, and a corsage of pink carnations.

The flower girl was Miss Gail Carter who wore a white dotted rayon gown, and Peter Kelley, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

Edrick Flewelling, cousin of the bridegroom, was the best man, while ushers were Vernon Sawyer, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Harold Wilder, brother of the bride.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride, with Miss Laurine Thompson in charge of the guest book, and Mrs. Harold Wilder in charge of the gift table, assisted by Miss Joyce Smith and Mrs. Milton Crouse. Miss Barbara Jackson and Miss Patrice McIntire assisted in serving.

The couple left by automobile for a wedding trip to Boston. The bride chose for traveling a black print dress, mouton lamb coat, and a corsage. They are now making their home at Washburn.

The bride was graduated from Washburn high school where she was a member of the National Honor society, Glee club, Student Council and Journalism club. She has been employed by Sears-Roebuck and company.

The bridegroom attended Washburn high school and is now engaged in farming.
