Cole - Carter In Recent Marriage

WASHBURN, April 5 [1949] -- Arlene Carter daughter of Mrs. Evelyn and the late Guilford H. Carter of Stoddard street, and Lewis William Cole son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cole of Houlton were married Friday evening at the home of the bride, in the presence of the immediate family.

Rev. Philip Hughey, Jr., pastor of the First Baptist church, read the double-ring ceremony. The couple's attendants were Gerane Rumstrom and Thomas Griffin, Jr.

Immediately following the service the group was transferred to Castle Hill Grange hall where a reception was held with more than 150 relatives and friends attending. Many gifts were received and refreshments included the traditional wedding cake.

The bride was graduated from Washburn High, class of 1948, and has since been employed by the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company at Presque Isle. The bridegroom attended the Washburn schools. After service in the U. S. Navy he completed a course in refrigeration and is at present employed in that capacity by the Maine Maxson Potato company at Washburn where the couple will reside.
