Miss Laurine Joyce Thompson Wed In Impressive Service At Washburn

WASHBURN. June 19 [1949] -- An impressive wedding was solemnized here recently at the First Baptist church when Miss Laurine Joyce Thompson, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Thompson of Washburn became the bride of Thomas R. York, Jr., only son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas R. York, Sr. of Mars Hill.

Traditional wedding music was played on the organ and piano by Mrs. Wilmont Churchill and Miss Helen Knox before the candlelight ceremony. Rev. Philip Hughey sang "Thou Art Mine Own," and Mrs. Owen Smith sang "I Love You Truly."

Rev. Philip Hughey, Jr., pastor of the church, read the double-ring service in the presence of relatives and friends of the couple. Escorted by her father, Miss Thompson was beautiful in a Victorian period gown of white organza embossed with ivory camellias and lilies of the valley.

made with fitted bodice and hooped skirt, the ruffles forming three points in the chapel length train. Her veil of bridal illusion fell from a Victorian bonnet made of ruffles matching the gown. She carried a white Bible with white orchids and organza markers tied with gypsophila.

Miss Loretta Thompson, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Her gown was of orchid-pink organza with embossed white dots fitted bodice and hooper skirt. She wore white short gloves and carried a crescent of white gladioli flowetes and gypsophila tied with lime-green tulle, with matching flowers in her hair.

Miss Mildred Schnebbe of Scarsdale, N. Y., a college classmate of the bride, and Miss Phyllis York of Mars Hill, a sister of the bride groom, were bridesmaids. They wore identical gowns of lime-green organza embossed with white dots fashioned like the gown of the maid of honor. They wore short white gloves and carried crescents of white gladioli flowerets and gypsophila tied with orchid-pink tulle and wore matching flowerets in their hair.

of the bride, and Vaughn Shaw of Mars Hill were ushers.

Mrs. Thompson, mother of the bride, wore an afternoon gown of aqua crepe with a pink hat and gloves, complementing her costume with a corsage of sweetheart roses. Mrs. York, mother of the bride-groom, wore a white linen dress with a green hat and gloves, while her corsage was of yellow roses.

Mrs. Audber Thompson of Houlton, paternal grandmother of the bride, wore a grey suit with black accessories and a gardenia corsage.

Mrs. Victoria Wilder of Washburn, maternal grandmother of the bride, was gowned in an afternoon black print dress with black accessories and a corsage of white gardenias.

The reception was held in the church parlors instead of the garden of the bride as originally

planned due to weather conditions.

Refreshments were served buffet style. The bride's cake, made by Mrs. Uno Espling of New Sweden, made an attractive centerpiece surrounded by clusters of mock orange arranged by Miss Edith Aylette of Presque Isle, while the table was lighted by white tapers in silver candlesticks.

The bride's cake was served by Mrs. Harold Wilder and Miss Helen Knox. Miss Polly Bearce and Miss Kay Lancaster were at the punch bowl while Mrs. Edmund Burke of Worcester, Mass., and Mrs. Gerald Donahue of Presque Isle, aunts of the bride, served. Mrs. Carroll Walder was in charge of refreshments, assisted by Mrs. William Foster, Mrs. J. C. McCall, Mr. Henry Russell, Mrs. Myrtle Smith and Mrs. Betty Umphrey.
