Blackstone-Barton Wedding At Caribou

CARIBOU, July 10 [1949] -- Miss Phyllis Marie Barton, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Barton of Caribou, and Wendell Estey Blackstone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Blackstone of Perham, were united in marriage at the United Baptist church of Caribou recently. Rev. H. Leslie Christie of Houlton performed the double ring ceremony.

The wedding march was played by Mrs. Wilmont Churchill of Washburn. The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of ivory slipper satin, fashioned with a high neckline; yoke trimmed with Chantilly lace caught up with orange blossoms; long pointed sleeves; tiered hoop skirt of satin and Chantilly lace caught up with orange blossoms and train edged with lace. Her fingertip veil was caught up to a crown of pearls. Her bouquet was made up of white roses, baby breath and streamers. Her only ornament was a pearl necklace which was a gift from the bridegroom.

The matron of honor, Mrs. Clayton Blackstone, sister of the bride, wore an orchid taffeta gown with matching coronet. She carried a bouquet of yellow roses.

The bridesmaids, Gloria and Betty Barton, sisters of the bride, wore matching gowns of yellow and aqua marquisette and picture hats. They carried bouquets of blue and yellow carnations.

Paul Blackstone, brother of the groom, was best man. Sherwood Barton, brother of the bride, and Hartson Blackstone, Jr., cousin of the groom were ushers. Judy Earl of Perham was flower girl. She wore an aqua dress with crown to match.

The mother of the bride wore a dress of aqua crepe with white accessories and corsage of pink roses.

The mother of the groom wore a rose crepe dress with white accessories and a corsage of white roses.

Richard Benoit of Adams Center, N, Y., sang "Oh Promise Me," "Because," and "Together."

RECEPTION

A reception was held in the church vestry immediately following the ceremony. Miss Helen, of Washburn, was in charge of the guest book. In charge of the gift table was Miss Wilma Blackstone and Miss Mary Blackstone, both of Perham; and Miss Wilma Churchill of Washburn. Mrs. Harold Duff of Hodgdon, cut the bride's cake, which was made by Mrs. Barton.

Those serving refreshments were Miss Carolyn McKenzie, Miss Norma Forbes, and Miss Christie Hopper of Caribou; Miss Barbara Lee of Glassville, N. B.; Miss Margaret Duff and Miss Grace Barton of Hodgdon.

Mrs. Blackstone is a graduate of Fort Kent high school and Bob Jones University of Greenville, S. C. For the past two years she taught in the public schools of Limestone and Washburn.

Mr. Blackstone is a graduate of Washburn high school and is engaged in farming with his father.

The couple left for a trip to Quebec and Montreal and return via Niagara Falls, N. Y.

For traveling, the bride chose a suit of cherry red with white accessories and a corsage of white gladiolus. Upon their return, they will reside in Perham.
