WASHBURN SPUD QUEEN -- Named Miss Washburn of 1949 at colorful ceremonies of the local potato blossom festival held here this past week at the Washburn high school auditorium, was Miss Loretta Thompson, 17, right, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laurel Thompson, who is shown here with Miss Katherine Briggs of Caribou, Maine Potato Blossom Queen of 1948. Over 400 persons packed the auditorium and saw the new queen named from a field of seven candidates. Miss Thompson will represent Washburn at the Maine Potato Blossom Festival at Fort Fairfield August 15.
