The Rev. Read Blackstone of Perham performed the double-ring ceremony. "Because" was sung by Elmer Tompkins, accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Silver at the piano.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in a gown off white satin with train and inserts of lace at neck line and bottom, with long pointed sleeves. Her veil of marquisette was caught to a crown, studded with pearls and trimmed with lace. She carried a bouquet of white carnations.
Miss Glennis Silver, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Her gown was of aqua crepe with low neckline and full skirt. She wore yellow flowers in her hair and carried a bouquet of yellow carnations.
Albion Helstrom, Jr., was best man, and Ralph Smith, brother of the bride, was usher.
The bride's mother wore a pink crepe gown and complemented her ensemble with a corsage of pink carnations. The bridegroom's mother wore a pink crepe gown with a corsage of blue carnations.
Approximately 250 attended the wedding reception which was held at the bride's home. Mrs. Keith Day had charge of the guest book. and Mrs. Dan Jackson and Mrs. Albion Helstrom, Jr., presided at the gift table.
Assisting in serving were Mrs. Ruth Smith, Mrs. Ellen Tarr, and the Misses Wilma Tompkins, Wilda Silver, Wilma Biackstone, Alice Sperry, Mona Smith, Wanda Helstrom, and Marilyn Smith.
The couple spent a week at Niagara Falls and are now at home in Washburn.
The bride is a graduate of Washburn High school and the Aroostook School of Commerce, Presque Isle, class of 1950. The bridegroom attended Washburn High school and is now employed by Eugene Smith; the bride's father.
Out of town guests at the reception were Mrs. C. N. McPeak and son, Peter, of Fitchburg. Mass.; Mrs. B. W. Wark, Mrs, Lewis Willey, Mrs. Edmond Shorey, and Mrs. Eva Helstrom of Caribou; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stephenson, Miss Betty Stephenson, Cynthit and Cathryn Marcho, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Boykin, Buddy and Bonnie, Ann Boukin, Mr, and Mrs. Fred Foster, and Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Hodgkins, all of Presque Isle; Mr. and Mrs Elmer Wood and family of Houlton; Mr. and Mrs. Elton Harris of Smyma Mills; Mrs. William Wright of Arlington, Va., and Ina Anderson of New Sweden.
