Miss Thompson Becomes Bride In Washburn Church

WASHBURN, Oct. 9 [1951] --Miss Jacqueline Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albion Thompson, became the bride of Sturgis Howard Hodgdon, son of Mrs. Marion Hodgdon of South Windham, recently at the First Baptist church of Washburn. Rev. J. Wesley Stuart performed the double ring ceremony

The altar was decorated with candelabra and baskets of gladioli.

Mrs. Carol Burke played the marches and incidental music and Miss Gloria Plissey sang "Because" and "Consecration."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore white nylon lace over taffeta. Her veil fell from a crown fitted cap with pearls she carried white carnations with an orchid inset.

Miss Beverly Thompson, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and she wore winter rose velvet and nylon net with matching crown and carried yellow chrysanthemums.

The Misses Mona Smith and Marilyn Lewin were bridesmaids. Mrs. Smith wore a yellow colonial chiffon gown over taffeta and Miss Lewin, a lilac over taffeta, each with matching crowns and corsages of poms.

Sue Thompson, cousin of the bride, wore a gown of aqua taffeta with a white headpiece and carried the traditional flower basket. Billie McCall was ring bearer.

Best man was Merrill Cobb and ushers, Chip Bull and Robert Thompson.

The bride's mother wore a plum taffeta with rhinestones complemented by a corsage of lilies. The bridegroom's mother was attired in a navy crepe and wore a corsage of pink gladioli.

RECEPTION HELD

Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held in the basement of the church. Mrs. Lewis Cole was in charge of the guest book. Miss Ruth Hodgdon served the bride's cake with the Misses Lois Russell and Janet Hodgdon presiding at the punch bowls.

The couple left by car on a wedding trip to Quebec. The bride's travel attire was a rust suit with black and aqua accessories complemented by an orchid corsage.

Mrs. Hodgdon is a graduate of Washburn High school.

Mr. Hodgdon is a graduate of the University of Maine, a veteran of World War Two and is at present a member of the Washburn High school faculty.

The couple is at home now at 18 Main street, Washburn.
