Marilyn Smith Washburn Bride

WASHBURN, Nov. 13 [1951] -- Miss Marilyn Kay Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Smith recently became the bride of Robert Sperry son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sperry in a simple home ceremony, performed at the home of the bride's parents. Rev. Lloyd Sparks, pastor of the Caribou Pentecostal church officiated at the double ring service in the presence of the immediate families. An arch decorated in rose and white and a large white wedding bell was the setting used for the marriage.

The bride was attired in a dark green changeable taffeta street dress and wore black accessories. She complemented her attire with a corsage of white poms.

Her only attendant was her sister, Miss Mona Smith, who wore a blue changeable taffeta dress with red accessories and her corsage was red carnations. John Akerson of Mars Hill was attendant to the bridegroom.

Mrs. Ben Smith, mother of the bride wore a navy crepe dress with black accessories and she wore a red rose corsage.

The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. James Sperry was attired in a wine suit dress with matching hat and her corsage was of yellow roses.

Attending the wedding ceremony were, Mr. and Mrs. James Sperry, and sons, Donald and Lester, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gregg, Mr. and Eugene Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Edrick Flewelling, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jackson. Mrs. Thomas Henley and Mrs. Sheldon Hallett, and Douglas, Galen, and Gilbert Hallett, and Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Sparks of Caribou.

Following the wedding ceremony an informal reception was held at the dining room of the Pentecostal church. An arch decorated in green and white was used for the bridal couple and friends and relatives were received. The bride's cake was made and served by the bride's aunt, Mrs. Sheldon Hallett of Caribou, and the bride's sister, Mrs. Edrick Flewelling. A wedding cake was made by Mrs. Frank Gregg, grandmother of the bridegroom. The cake wrapped in silver paper was served separately.

At the gift table were Mrs. Edrick Flewelling, and Miss Beryl Hallett. Miss Patricia Wilcox circulated the guest book. Assisting in serving were Mrs. Flora Cary, Mrs. Vesta Thompson, Mrs.

Ella Flanagin, Miss Catherine Duncan. Miss Joy Clark. At the reception Mrs. James Sperry, the bridegroom's mother, sang the wedding hymn, "Together'' and Mrs. Margaret Harris was accompanist.

For traveling Mrs. Sperry wore a wine suit with black accessories and a corsage of white poms. The couple spent their wedding trip in Portland. They are now living in Washburn.

Mrs. Sperry attended Washburn high school and Mr. Sperry graduated from Washburn high school and attended Zions Bible Institute.
