Wilma Churchill Becomes Bride At Washburn Home

WASHBURN, Sept. 14 [1952] --An attractive lawn wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Churchill recently, when their daughter, Wilma Ruth, was united in marriage to Harold C. Merrill of Fall River, Mass. The Rev. Philip C. Hughey, Jr., of Clinton, Mass., performed the double ring ceremony before an arch of cedar.

Incidental music and the wedding march was played by Mrs. Esther Higgins Ward, a college classmate of the bride. Before the ceremony, Mr. Howard Janssen of Boston sang "I'll Walk With Thee" and "Because." Prayer was offered by the Rev. Reuben Martin. After the ceremony, Mr. Janssan sang "Precious Lord, Take Our Hand."

The bride was lovely in a white embroidered organdy gown fashioned with a high neck buttoned with tiny buttons to the waist with long pointed sleeves with a full skirt. She wore a lace trimmed veil which was caught to a coronet. The veil was worn by her mother and by her sister at their marriages. She carried a white Bible centered with white flowers and tied with white satin streamers caught with sweet peas.

Mrs. Murray Allen, Jr., sister of the bride, was matron of honor and her dress was of yellow organdy. The bridesmaids were Miss Barbara Merrill, the bridegroom's sister, of Fall River, Mass., and Miss Joyce Waugh of Presque Isle, friend of the bride, Miss Merrill wore green organdy and Miss Waugh wore orchid. The dresses were fashioned alike and both carried colonial bouquets of sweet peas and wore headbands of sweet peas.

The best man was Ralph Wright of Boston, roommate of the bridegroom.

Ushers were Wayne Churchill, brother of the bride and Murray Allen, Jr., brother-in-law of the bride.

BRIDE'S MOTHER

The bride's mother, Mrs. Churchill, wore an aqua dress and a corsage of red gladioli tips. Mrs. Merrill the bridegroom's mother, was attired in a gray silk dress with black hat and her corsage was of red gladioli tips. Mrs. Emily Estey, the bride's grandmother wore a print dress with pink gladioli tips corsage.

A reception followed at the home of the bride. Miss Mavis Churchill the bride's sister, had charge of the guest book. The bride's cake which was made by Mrs. Quentin Jardine, was served by Mrs. Carroll Blackstone, aunt of the bride, assisted by Miss Wilma Blackstone, after the bridal couple cut the traditional first slice. Presiding at the gift table was Miss Lois Learnard, assisted by Miss Dorothy Churchill and Mrs. Grace Parker, cousins of the bride. Refreshments were in charge of Mrs. Myrtle Smith and Mrs. J. Wesley Brewer.

The bride is a graduate of Washburn high school and received her degree in B.R.E. at Gordon College of Theology and Missions, Mr. Merrill is a senior at Gordon college. They will reside in Boston.

Out-of-town guests included the Rev. and Mrs. Philip C. Hughey, Jr., of Clinton, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Merrill, Fall River, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jansen of Boston and Ralph Wright, Boston: Mrs. Ernest Johnson, Miss Joyce Waugh, Miss Fern Simpson, Miss Elma Kinney, Mrs. Gerald Brown, Mrs, Byron Churchill all of Presque Isle.
