Washburn Girl Weds Airman At Presque Isle Base

WASHBURN, Oct. 9 [1953] Miss Ethel Grace Clayton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clair L. Clayton of Washburn recently became the bride of A-2c George Lee Casteel, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Lee Casteel, Sr. of Atlanta, Ga.

The wedding took place at the Air Force Base chapel in Presque Isle, Chaplain William F. Cooley, performing the double-ring ceremony.

Multi-colored gladioli decorated the altar. Marion Miller played the traditional wedding music.

The bride was escorted down the aisle by usher S-Sgt. Thomas E. Martin. She was gowned in satin and Chantilly lace with sweetheart neckline of net and lace and long pointed sleeves.

Her long train was of the same satin. She wore a veil of tulle which was attached to a coronet of pearls and rhinestones and carried a bouquet of white gladioli with satin streamers.

The maid of honor was Miss Jeannette Campbell. She was attired in a pink satin gown covered with nylon net and wore a headdress of pink flowers and veil to match her gown. She carried a cascade of pink gladioli.

A-2c John P. Geis of Oak Park, Ill., was best man. Ushers were S-Sgt. Thomas E. Martin of Carolton. Ga., and A-2c Donald J. Barry of Butler, N. J.

Sharon E. Cropley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cropley of Hartford, Conn. was flower girl.

She was dressed in a lavender satin gown styled as that of the maid of honor, and she wore a matching headdress of lavender flowers and veil.

BRIDE'S MOTHER

The mother of the bride was dressed in navy blue with pearls and white accessories. She wore a corsage of white poms.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the private dining room at the Northeastland hotel.

Assisting in serving were the Misses Patricia Thibodeau and Jeannette Campbell.

Mrs. Floyd Cropley had charge of the guest book and Miss Mona Smith had charge of the gift table.

The couple will reside at 203 State street in Presque Isle after a short honey-moon.

The bride was graduated from Washburn high school and Zion Bible Institute, East Providence, R. I.

She has traveled as an evangelist in New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She has completed two years at Aroostook State Teachers college.

The bridegroom was graduated from John McEachern high school in Marietta, Ga. He served four and one half years in the U. S. Merchant Marines, He is now in the Air Force at the USAFB in Presque Isle.
