Pauline Berce Becomes Bride In Presque Isle Church Service

WASHBURN, Feb. 17 [1954] -- Miss Pauline Ruth Berce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodbury Lee Berce of Washburn, became the bride of Paul Jean Eastman, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson Eastman of Island falls early this month at St. John's Episcopal church at Presque Isle.

The Rev. Charles R. Fisher, rector, read the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Vaughan Allen was church organist.

The church was beautifully decorated with white snapdragons, bouquets on the altar, white gladioli pew bouquets and white gladioli and huckleberry leaves in the windows.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white lyrical gown with pleated tiers of tulle under a floor length cutaway of Renaissance lace. Her fingertip veil was of tulle with pleated tulle and orange blossoms headdress. Her only ornament was a strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom. She carried a shatter bouquet of white gladioli.

Mrs. Heber Umphrey of Fort Kent was matron of honor, and wore a gown of lavender taffeta with a bouffant skirt and a jacket of purple velvet. Her headdress and mitts were of matching lavender taffeta and she carried a shatter bouquet of pink carnations and blue bachelor buttons.

Carroll Richardson of Presque Isle was best man and ushers were Neil Kelley and Joseph Nadeau, both of Presque Isle.

Mrs. Berce, mother of the bride, was attractively gowned in a royal blue crepe dinner gown with matching accessories and carried a corsage of pink camellias.

Mrs. Eastman, mother of the bridegroom wore a turquoise crepe dinner-gown with matching accessories and a corsage of red camellias.

RECEPTION HELD

The reception was held in the ballroom of the Northeastland hotel at Presque Isle. A three-tiered bride's cake made by Mrs. Uno Espling of New Sweden, made an attractive centerpiece on the bride's table surrounded by white gladioli and huckleberry leaves. The table was lighted with white tapers in silver candelabra. The first slice of cake was cut by the bride and bridegroom and then served by Mrs. Carl Lagerstrom of Caribou, cousin of the bride.

Refreshments were served by Mrs. Ralph McElwain, Mrs. Kermit Randolph, and Miss Frances Mahaney of Caribou, and Mrs. William Forbes and Mrs. George Doody of Washburn.

Another table held the punch bowls with a center bouquet of pink carnations, blue bachelor buttons and heather. Mrs. Glade Leonard and Miss Lois Leonard were in charge of serving the punch.

Mrs. William Hallett, was in charge of the guest book and Miss Ruth Norbeck was in charge of the gift table.

Immediately following the reception the bridal couple left. For a wedding trip to New York City. The bride chose for traveling a grey wool suit complemented by a mink scarf with green accessories.

Mrs. Eastman was graduated from Washburn High School, Ricker Classical Institute and received her B. S. degree in Home Economics from the University of Maine. She has taught in Maine and Connecticut schools.

Mr. Eastman was graduated from Merrill High School, Smyrna, Me., and received his B. S. and M. S. degrees in Agronomy from the University of Maine. He is a member of the Phi Eta Kappa fraternity and Alpha Zeta , honorary agricultural society. He served three years in the Air Force and is now assistant chief, Division of Plant Industry, Department of Agriculture, Augusta.

Mr. and Mrs. Eastman will make their home in Augusta.
