Glennis Silver Washburn Bride

WASHBURN, Aug. 24 [1954] -- Miss Glennis Ruth Silver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Silver of Washburn, became the bride of Otis Russell, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Russell, Sr., of Washburn, in an August ceremony on the lawn of the bride's home.

The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Read Blackstone, uncle of the bride, before a background of spruce and cedar with pansies and sweet peas intermingled.

Traditional wedding music was played by Miss Wilma Blackstone and the Rev. Reuben Martin sang "I Love You Truly" and "Together With Him."

The bride given in marriage by her father, was lovely in a ballerina length nylon gown of net skirt and chantilly lace over satin with pointed collar and long pointed sleeves. Her finger-tip veil fell from a crown of net and seeded pearls and she carried a bouquet of red and white roses on a white bible.

Miss Gwendolyn Condon, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. She was attired in a gown of aqua marquisette with a bertha collar and carried a colonial bouquet of yellow roses. Her head band was of yellow net.

Mervyn Libby of Fort Fairfield, friend of the bridergroom, was best man. The bride's mother wore a pink and white floral print dress with matching accessories and a corsage of pink shattered carnations. The bridegroom's mother wore an aqua silk print dress with matching accessories and a corsage of white shattered carnations.

A reception followed immediately after the ceremony at the bride 's home. The wedding cake made by Mrs. Florence Tompkins was cut and served by the Misses Lois and Virginia Russell after the first piece was cut by the bride and bridegroom.

The Misses Lois Learnard and Carolyn Russell were gift hostesses. Mrs. Pauline Helstrom, Mrs. Wilma Silver and Miss Phyllis Osborne assisted in serving. Mrs. Reuben Martin, sister of the bride, was in charge of the guest book.

The couple left for a short wedding trip to the White Mountains. The bride chose for traveling a charcoal iridescent, dress with bolero. She complemented it with her corsage of red and white roses used for her bride's bouquet.

The bride is a graduate of Washburn high school, attended Aroostook School of Commerce and is now employed at the Washburn Trust company. The bridegroom is a graduate of Washburn high school and is a senior at the University of Maine, majoring in engineering Physics. The couple will live in Washburn for the remainder of the summer.
