Arlene Brown Wed In Washburn Rite

WASHBURN, Nov. 7 [1954] -- The First Baptist Church was the scene of an attractive wedding last week when Miss Arlene Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Brown, became the bride of S/Sgt. Robert O. McClelland son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford McClelland of Atkins, Iowa.

The Rev. J. Wesley Stuart, pastor, performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of the immediate family members. The altar was decorated with baskets of white chrysanthemums and pink pompons Miss Mae Hanson, organist, played the wedding music.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gray suit with navy blue and white accessories. She wore a corsage of white pompoms.

Miss Henrietta White, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and she wore a navy blue suit with white accessories and her corsage was of pink pompons.

Airman/2c Frank Madiera, friend of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Walter Arculeo, uncle of the bride, and Donald McClelland, brother of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Melvin Brown, mother of the bride, wore a gray dress with navy blue accessories and a corsage of red roses.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Mrs. Annie Umphrey played piano selections during the reception. The wedding cake was served by Mrs. Gladys Staples, aunt of the bride.

Serving were Mrs. Harriet Arculeo and Mrs. Marjorie Kidney, aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Nada Theriault, sister of the bride. Mrs. Dietland Hartel was in charge of the gifts and Mrs. Helen Farley circulated the guest book.

Mrs McClelland attended Washburn high school and the bride-groom is a graduate of Atkins High school, and after this year of serving in the Army Air Force, he and his wife will return to Iowa where he will engage in farming.
