Marlene Conley Becomes Bride At Washburn

WASHBURN, March 10 [1955] -- Miss Marlene Conley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge R. Conley of Washburn, became the bride of Richard M. McLaughlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice McLaughlin of Chapman, in a home wedding March 5.

The couple stood before an arch decorated with green boughs and crepe paper. The Rev. Reuban Martin, of the Conservative Baptist Church of Washburn, officiated at the double ring ceremony.

Mrs. Wilmont Churchill played traditional wedding music and accompanied the Rev. Martin, soloist. who sang I Love You Truly.

The bride wore a ballerina length gown of nylon net and lace over slipper satin, with a fitted bodice, Mandarin collar, long pointed sleeves with tiny buttons at the wrist.

Her fingertip veil of nylon tulle fell from a half hat of nylon and velvet. She carried a white Bible with corsage of white carnations and ribbon streamers.

Miss Vella Conley, youngest sister of the bride was maid of honor, and wore a deep pink ballerina length gown of nylon net over taffeta, fitted strapless bodice, with lace jacket. Her bouquet was of tinted blue carnations.

Roger McLaughlin, brother of the bridegroom was best man.

Lester Conley, youngest brother of the bride, was ring bearer and carried the rings on a white satin pillow with lace trim.

The mother of the bride wore a street length dress of dusty rose lace and her corsage was white poms.

The bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue suit, with rose accessories. Her corsage was white poms.

Betty McDougall had charge of the gift table and Elaine Bondeson circulated the guest book.

Jean Holts acted as usher. All were classmates of the bride.

Refreshments served to relatives and close friends of the couple, included a bride's cake made by the mother of the bride and cut and served by Elaine Bondeson, after the first slice had been cut by the couple.

The bride is a senior at Washburn High School.

The bridegroom was graduated from Mapleton High School in 1952. He is now serving in the United States Air Force.
