Joyce Marie Nutting Weds Gary W. Barker In Washburn

WASHBURN, June 29 [1955] -- Joyce Marie Nutting, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nutting of Perham, was united in marriage to Gary Wayne Barker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Barker of Washburn, Sunday at 8 o'clock in the First Baptist Church in Washburn.

The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Reed Blackstone, assisted by the Rev. Wesley Stuart.

The aisle was decorated with white satin bows and poms, with baskets of white gladioli and peonies decorating the altar.

The wedding music was played by Miss Wilma Blackstone and Mrs. Gerald Swetnam sang "O Promise Me", "I Love You Truly", and "The Lord's Prayer."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in her floor length gown of chantilly lace and nylon net. The gown had a scalloped neckline and long tapered bridal sleeves pointed at the wrist. The full skirt of chantilly lace was scalloped at the front with a nylon net accordion pleated insert. Her fingertip veil of illusion net fell from a cap of lace and tiny seed pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses centered with a white orchid. Her only ornament was a string of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Paul Conley was matron of honor. Her gown was lavender with matching head dress and shoes. She carried a white satin basket with yellow roses. Bridesmaids were Miss Elisabeth Tilley, Miss Maxine Carter, and Miss Myrna Lewin. Their gowns were identical to the matron of honor, and they also carried white satin baskets with yellow roses.

Norma Anderson, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Her gown was purple and she carried a small white satin basket with yellow roses.

Ernest Drost, cousin of the bride was ring bearer.

Dale Barker, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Malcolm Spencer, nephew of the bridegroom Carroll Plissey and Eddie Plissey, cousin of the bridegroom.

The bride's mother wore a blue gray dress with a pink hat and accessories. Her corsage was of pink roses.

The bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue dress with white accessories and a corsage of white carnations.

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church dining room, which was decorated with seasonal flowers.

Flower arrangements and bridal bouquets were made by Mrs. Ernest Nutting, grandmother of the bride.

Miss Rowena Crouse was in charge of the guest book. Miss Alice Tupper and Mrs. Merle Nickerson were in charge of the gifts. Mrs. Bennie Tompkins was in charge of refreshments assisted by Mrs. Basil Fox, Mrs. Clair Silver, and Mrs. Olin Wilder. Serving were Miss Carolyn Russell and Miss Pat Plissey.

The bride's cake was cut by Mrs. Ollie Barker, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, and served by Mrs. Kenneth Fox, after the first slice was cut by the bride and bridegroom.

For a trip to the White Mountains the bride chose a pink linen dress with white hat and accessories, and a white orchid corsage.
